Yesterday while driving around I was listening to Circus Maximus. This was the first time when I really listened to it (without doing anything that would occupy a significant portion of my mind - heh, just driving). I kept thinking it was Symphony X. Even when I remembered it was Circus Maximus, I kept thinking it sounded like Symphony X. After I stopped listening to it, I had a Symphony X song stuck in my head.

They don't really sound like Symphony X, but SOMETHING about their music reminds me of Symphony X. I thought maybe the vocal arrangements, or perhaps the overall structure of the songs.

Anybody else hear the resemblance?

BTW, that album kicks serious ass.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! That's too funny.

I was listening to Evergrey "Recreation Day" while driving home from Detroit last weekend. There was a storm ahead and the lightening kept flashing in time with the songs and for all the big drumrolls. That was freaky! o_O

Don't know about the CM/SymX comparision. I kinda compared them to Dream Theater the most.. but I haven't given the disc a good spinning.

It's funny that you say that. I was listening to "I'm Too Sexy for my Shirt" by Right Said Fred, and I kept thinking I was listening to Manowar. And when I stopped listening to it Right Said Fred, I had the song "Blood of my Enemies" stuck in my head.:loco:

:guh: Wow, the same exact thing happened to me while I was driving to a show at the PNC Arts Center on a Jersey Highway. I was listening to Opeth's "The Grand Conjuration" and there was a raging thunderstorm that was in perfect synchronization with the heavy riffing parts of the song. It was very cool, but the lightning was so intense and close that it was nearly impossible to drive over 30 MPH on the highway.

wow! i was watching the cops beat the shit out of some guy in front of my house while i was listening to Symphorce, and to my amazement, they seem to be doing it to the beat of the song.

i definitely hear both DT and SX in CM, but not in a bad way. a band sure could do a whole lot worse than being influenced by those guys...

I agree. It's not a bad thing, just kinda surprised em I didn't get it at the show, but only when listening to the CD. And it's not a really overt thing like say listening to Silent Force's Infatuator and thinking, "I don't know why, but this reminds me of Judas Priest."

Dude... CM could rerecord When Dream and Day Unite or Divine Wings of tragedy and claim it as their own, and I'd STILL love it.

Why?

Cuz it's a helluva lot better than all the Limp Bisquick/Mudvayne/Linkin Park clones on the radio right now!

Hey World! Clone Dream Theater and Sym X and Maiden and Priest all you want! I'll listen to it, guaranteed!!!

I know Mudvayne well. Their bass player has chops to spare. Seen em live quite a few times. And the singer's voice is really growing on me from their latest album. He just has this sound to his voice, that I can't really compare him with anyone. Very good stuff.

But there's too many bands cloning them, without the talent or good songs.

I'm a Silent Force fan and Infatuator IS a JP rip-off.:D

!!!!!!!!!!!

It might just be because they're a Symphony X + Dream Theater clone with a bit of songwriting ala Conception added.

Can anyone not hear "The First Chapter" and not instantly think "Whoah it's The Odyssey?" Seriously. The similarities are laughable, sorry. I don't care if you like them but anyone who will sit and deny the glaring "influences" is being rather silly in my opinion.
