Weird Drop Outs

Hi,

I have a Edirol Fa-101 firewire audio interface and every so often it will just lock up for a bit- the sound will cut out, there'll be a period of silence, the cursor on the screen will go out of time with the music (and then get back into time a few seconds later).

I dunno what is causing this- i have 2GB of RAM and i usually run cubase on its own without any background programs :S

Is there something i've set up incorrectly, or is 2GB not enough for audio stuff?

Should be enough for audio stuff. Unless you have 40 tracks with 120 plugs on it plus it really depends on the plugs. Let's say you use drumagog that eats a lot of ram on 5 tracks... this allready can make a mess. But you would realize popping and crackling.

I have the same interface and I don't have that problem. Maybe try reinstalling with new drivers? I had problems using the Edirol as my standard soundcard. When I played music in winamp and opened up media player for a video or something one of them just had no sound or nothing had any sound anymore... the only thing I could do was resetting the interface. I'm really thinking of selling it sometimes... and getting something more user-friendly.

My first thought is that its a buffer size thing. You don't need low latency unless you are tracking, bring it to 512 or higher to get better performance with lots of plugins.

If thats not it, then I'll suggest the usual interface troubleshooting stuff.
- Unplug the FA 101 and uninstall it.
- Download the latest driver for the FA 101.
-Restart the computer.
-Try it again.
