weird virus emails???

oh no i wasnt blaming the bodom fans, i thought it was very stage that they nearly all came from bodomish email addresses esp considering the only other bodom fans let alone ones from this forum i talk to with Instant Messengers.

hey you, if its slowing your internet connection thats a bad sign, it could be using your PC to help packet attack someone (aka DDOS attack) or something could be snooping through your pc through an open port or something, especially if the 'virus' is actually a trojan. watch out!

thanks for the link, child666!

edit- "the worm retrieves a URL that it uses to determine where to get the Trojan file, downloads the Trojan file to the local computer, and then executes it." -Symantec
it IS a trojan!! (i was right :D) /egotrip

I've been getting a tonne of these emails, but thankfully they are being sent to my Linux shell account. I wonder if the virus got email addresses from Bulletin Boards?

I think that this worm searches the cpu for any e-mail addresses saved (Outlook Express, MSN messenger, ICQ probably) and then uses those addresses to send the virus. Also, it takes one of those addresses, which it puts on the "From" field, so that the person receiving the infected e-mail, doesn't know who really sent it.

That's why it's been a bit awkward for one company here to deal with this worm, since they don't have it, but the virus has sent lots of e-mails using their addresses as the sender. So, yesterday they got lots of e-mails from different places telling "We won't receive any e-mails from you, since you have sent us infected messages". Seems to be a bit difficult to try to explain that they didn't even have the virus.

Don't be so paranoid. Not everything on the Internet is a worm. The RPC worm/Trojan freaked everyone out, but shit, it's not that harmful. The majority of viruses out today......pssssshhhh.........I could create something better using VB. Anyways, make sure you have a good Antivirus and only open mails you know are safe. If the sender isn't someone you know, simply delete it. More than likely it's just a spammer. Also, if you're on a LAN-type/perm connection (not dial-up), make sure you have a firewall.
