weirdest bands..

Whoever wrote this clearly has never heard anything about Ultrawurscht before... The band which lives for sausage and fights against cheese :ill:

does anyone acctually like alestorm? i know they have grown in popularity as of late and i just dont find them interesting or funny (if thats what they are going for) is it just the pirate thing that attracts fans or is anyone acctually a fan of their music, cause im a huge old school power metal fan and just dont get it,

i mean it is good to see metal bands not taking themselves very seriously as it casts off stereotypes, but i find alestorm rather gimmicky

I don't understand why people are comparing RW and Alestorm tbh...completely different.
you'll understand the hype around Alestorm when you saw them live...it's just a great party and everyone's having fun.
I think people are tired of having to pretend they're tough and evil, painting their facess and only attend shows with less than 50 ppl in the audience, cause everything else is untrue.

yep, you could say that Alestorm are gimicky...but they tour the world with it, are making a living with being on stage making music....that's pretty metal to me...at least more than someone painting his face at the weekends and having his regular 9-5 at 7/11.
Believe me, Alestorm aren't taking themselves seriously or think they're pirates, but they DO take the music seriously...and they're making a living playing it....most people envy that.
you don't have to like the music, but I do understand the hype around them in a way...plus Chris is one of the most musical persons I've ever worked with...musically he's fucking brilliant

i completely agree with you about the tough guy evil thing its not affective anymore as metal is no longer mysterious or anything and people couldnt care less if your smiling crying or punching someone when playing live, as long as they dig your tunes,

and i know you have worked with them personally so its good to hear that they take the music so serious :) and well done to them for touring the world and making a living as a metal band in general no matter what they play or how they play it, thats respect right there,

the music (as all music) is subjective to personal taste, and they arent quite my cuppa tea, but i suppose i havent really enjoyed any power metal from the last ten years or so unless it had heavy prog influences

musically I wasn't comparing anyone to anyone ... just mentioned there was another metal band that got pretty well known exploiting the pirate gimmick, before it was popular I might add. Personally I feel the only similarity between the two aside from the obvious imagery is that both bands are playing somewhat in the same genre.

With one out of the way that leaves all the glorious attention for the other

And fuck yeah I'd board that pirate ship in a minute ... or to quote my singer from several years back when LMP made us an offer and Rhapsody was still quite popular ... we were having a band discussion after a rehearsal, talking about the pros & cons of the offer and he looked us dead in the eye and said with absolute conviction & sincerity ... "I want each of you to know that I am fully prepared to wear a pirate shirt"
