Bulb's/Periphery - Production Tips

Pardon my intoxicated mistake: By "Royer" I meant Ribbon. It's pretty much synonymous for me, however incorrect that may be. Like Kleenex is to tissue.
We even refer to the knock-offs as "Royer" some parts around hear, yes, even more ignorant. I was actually surprised to see that Royer is even that old lol, the late 90's still seems five years ago to me.

But realistically, compare the cost of a record cut thirty/forty years ago before ADAT, all that 2-inch, the more jobs there were in the studio. Maybe there was more money to spend then but technologically the possibilities were more limited.

I just don't see the harm in someone taking advantage of new technology in the workplace, especially in entertainment. That doesn't mean it makes things "easier", just provides more options.

I think the main complaint most people have with Misha's productions are that aside from using very little real equipment, the music is squashed to shit dynamically, but then again metal in general is squashed beyond reason (But everyone's a victim of the loudness wars).

thats like calling all dynamic mics shure's. or every consenser an AKG. doesnt make any sense. it would make a little more sense if you called every ribbon an older brand that was around in the 40s. but royer?

I don't think anyone cares about the equipment he is using. I think they don't like the way that it sounds like shit.

Well, excuse a few brain farts but that wouldn't make a difference either way. I already posted what I thought on the matter.
My language and occasional faulty use of it is aside from the point. *Around here*. Fixed. *Ribbon* fixed. Obviously you guys are really interested in the thread topic enough post anything on topic or helpful upon seeing me bump this thread,
and then respond by picking at my post, albeit responding only about my incorrectness, but not actually providing any subjective insight.

I didn't know this forum turned into a pissing contest. What is this SMN? Or is this topic so taboo?

bingo

you can make stuff that sounds way better than bulb's stuff using the exact same gear. altho lately I've been stressing about how I probably sound way too much like bulb despite a conscious desire to set myself apart. ahaha oh well

You have 18 posts, how great can your insight be into this place to decide whether or not it's turned into a pissing contest? Not to mention you bumped an old thread when with relatively useless discussion prompts when we've got another thread going on about the same exact thing right now.

Terminology has been developed over the years so that people can effectively communicate with each other. Plus, you should just calm down and realize that being wrong isn't the end of the world, it's an opportunity to learn and improve.

I just think you all need to calm down.
Kid made a good point, don't make him feel like an ass for doing it.

Misha is the king of bedroom producers.

I actually have more respect for him for his creative abilities on guitar. Misha was on the John Petrucci forums many years back and he was just another kid in his bedroom recording videos and striving to improve. He was different because he wasn't interested in being a JP clone, he was constanly experimenting and trying new things. He's come a long way since and has done a LOT with very little. He deserves respect for how far he's come, but to lable him a producer on the level of of Andy or CLA is absurd. I really hope no one is seriously putting him in that category.

The issue is that any good points you may have made were buried in your wall of internet tough-guy antics. You came across like an asshole, and are saying that a forum full of some of the most helpful guys around is "scared" because bedroom producers are getting better as a result of the tips that they got from this very forum.

The topic isn't taboo, it's that you sound like the typical angsty keyboard hero, and quite frankly that act was boring a very long time ago. Yawn.

Misha did that stray from the path album?

yuuuuup. and the new veil of maya:

its the mastering compression/limiting on his work that i hate... just absolutely smashed to fuckery; really sets a new low standard for lack of dynamics in metal/music in general. the periphery full length was even worse.

apples and oranges i guess.... he's got extremely good ears though, lets all agree on that. but jeff's right, he's clearly very much still in the 'above average demo maker' level of engineering (uses same go-to gear/settings, probably doesn't fully understand the science behind what he's doing; just knows how to make a snare hit really effin hard kinda deal)

the stray from the path record is easily his best work though IMO
