"West Memphis Three" To Be Freed After 18 Years

http://www.guitarworld.com/west-memphis-three-be-freed-after-18-years

I really do not know what to say about this, seems a bit overwhelming and I can only image how the three feel. All I can say is it is goddamn about time and this should have never happened to begin with.

This quote annoys the shit out of me:
According to the AP, the three men will be allowed to maintain that they are innocent -- a notion the three have maintained for almost two decades -- as long as they acknowledge that prosecutors have enough evidence to convict them.

If they're able to maintain that they were innocent, that means that there is reasonable doubt. That, by definition, means that there is not enough evidence to convict them.

It's absolutely fucking ridiculous that the freedom of individuals is not as important to our justice system as the egos of prosecutors, judges and small town sensibilities.

Fuck everything about this (except them getting out, finally).

This is what happens when Prisons are run by for-profit companies.

This. :/

We're at the point in our society where I believe our sentencing guidelines and the practice of punishment instead of rehabilitation goes against the core values that this nation is supposed to be built upon. We have made it legal to take away all of a persons rights and turn them into a commodity...basically slave labor...and yet most people are happy with it because they don't want "crime" in their perfect little neighborhoods.

Honestly this can't stand and it's one of the things that makes me sick to death of living here and furious at those around me who support these evil (yes, evil) notions of treating people.

I have several books on this case and with my girlfriend once writing papers in college I know it fairly well... There seemed to be a lot of small redneck town politics behind all of this that really had nothing to do with the "Three" they just became focal points it seemed so no one focused on the "corruption" over there. So Arkansas would never totally admit to anything I don't think thus this bargain does seem to make sense from the otherside's fucked up point of view.
It no long matters for the "Three" they will be out and enjoy some fame as free men name regardless if their names are cleared on paper. But it was a high price they paid for it. Still I raise my glass to them. And know to stay away from that fucked up backwards part of the country where witch hunts still occur.

This + it's also what happens when you live in a town full of crazy people that REALLY should be thrown in jail (along with anyone who disagrees with their innocence) instead of these poor dudes.

I think the worst part of this whole thing is that I have literally no idea what's going on.

I didn't know about this story. Had to do some research to understand it, and not enough to make me form an opinion. In fact, I barely got the whole thing as it is.

My taking is "three metalheads were falsely accusing of murdering kids and the main reason why prosecutors said they did it was, because they listened to metal/satanic music?" Is that about right?

Yes, they listened to Metallica and had criminal records for small petty crimes meanwhile the poor children who were murdered had highly suspicious family members (DNA evidence now supports the theory that one of the fathers could've been the murderer), but it was the metalheads that needed to be made an example of just to close the case and put everyone at ease. It happened 18 years ago, but it is still by all intents and purposes a modern day witch hunt and is one of the most sickening things I've ever seen happen in this country.

well it actually went a lot deeper but I guess some people can only understand the Reader's Digest version... the again the tv movie.

So are you implying that I'm not a very smart person and couldn't "get" the whole story, when I am basing the information I have on a paragraph published by Guitar World magazine? Are you serious dude?

Take it as you will, seemss that is usually the case in these forums. And now I'm serious.
But hey it is not like this was a virtually unknown case for 18 f@#kin years. And yes it actually does kind of amaze me when I especially see "metal people" who are unaware of this. Sure I know that things pass by people that just happens but really; all the metal festivals, charities, and bands like A Sound of Thunder selling CDs to raise money for this cause... Seems that the whole metal community would have been aware of this. Just seems odd.
Ok I'm finished, pick that apart now and tell me what I'm actually saying.

And total props to a sound of Thunder for not being oblivious.
