How are you dudes using these on mac? Firewire doesn't work. Apparently I am not the only one with this problem as it seems there are several topics on it online.

Taking it back and I DO NOT RECOMEND THIS GARBAGE ON A MAC. Well unless your content with using the unusable serial buss option. I suppose if all your doing is backing your shit up then this is the drive for you.

Now that I am off my soapbox if anyone knows the secret to getting this to work let me know. I bought a 320gig WD mybook premium edition.

This exact model has worked a treat for me on my ibook g4 via firewire..... makes logic run so much smoother when you run the audio from it too... Have you run all your mac updates etc?

My Seagate 160 gig has been flawlessly kicking ass for 2 years now, and with both firewire and USB2 plugs, it's super-convenient

Bah, it comes pre-formatted for FAT32. Just reformat it in Disk Utility.


It works on Mac - I'm using one right now via FireWire.

I must have a goofy drive then.

I did re format the drive .

EDIT: drive won't even turn on today. All well, back to Best Buy it goes. I am getting something different.

I have two WD mybook HDs (not the premium edition) - i use them for some backup things and stuff.. They are working ok - but they are insanely SLOOOW. I would not recommend them because of that. Transfering a 50GB project folder needs ages.

(i am on a PC btw)
