OK Im setting myself up for a fall here, but I just love 70's Yes music. Seeing as Deep Purple are getting an airing, does anyone else care for the high pitched prog-rockers with Roger Dean artwork and Rick Wakemans fast wanking??

When I'm in an early 70s prog mood, nothing beats Yes. 'Closer to the Edge' is tops. Shame about what followed, though... i.e. "Tales..."
I'm sure that some metallers will cringe, but early Genesis, King Crimson, Can, King Crimson, Camel, ELP, PFM, and Banco del Mutuo Soccorso are also superb.
I hope I have stepped on some death metal toes. :D

That said, the best band to emerge from the 70s: the mighty Hawkwind!

I think Yes is great, mainly in the way that they wrote and arranged their music. Jon Anderson has quite a voice; I don't think I've heard someone in a band like that sing on key quite so high. But yeah, I'm setting myself up to get flamed, but what the hell.

prog should be served in small doses, if thats acutally possible. King crimson and hawkwind are alright but the only decent thing roger bain stuck a picture on is the budgie albums :D

wow i think i was the only person in the world to know about hawkwind...cosmic rock rules!!!

and yes im a huge fan of rick wakeman. his solo concept albums kick ass.

Damnit, Airman, I shouldn't respond because you insulted me for posting about S-Club 7, which is of COURSE relevant to Anathema.
But... Budgie are good, if early 70s proto-metal is your cup of tea.
Sometimes the vocals are unbearably high-pitched, hence the Rush comparison, but they do have some pretty dark and grotty riffs, hence the Sabs comparison.

Don Corleone,
That's cool you're into Deep Purple and Hawkwind. What bands have played Istanbul lately? I've heard about more and more going there, which is great.
Rick Wakeman has good solo stuff, although he did once record an album about King Arthur, which was written for ice-skating!
King Arthur on Ice! Nooooooooooooooooooooooo! :zombie:
