the official site lists the acoustics used on each album. mike uses his martin (d-16 i think?) live.

And I thought the band already had too many Martins....

Try out a bunch of different ones and go with what you can afford and what sounds good. I have a Yamaha FG-435, sounds fine was $400 or so. Not as nice sounding as my friend's Takamine, but I didn't spend the $2000 (each) that they did.

One of my favorite things is to go into the humidor at Guitar Center, grab the most expensive Martin, Gibson, Takamine, etc...
and play the opening to Rainbow in the Dark look at it, hang it back on the wall and go, "This is crap!"
Make sure someone is watching.

Try it some time, I call it stress relief. :muahaha:

Opeth uses the 6-string CF Martin 00016GT on the latest three albums.

This is the one I have as well.

It's an outstanding guitar - Take a look on my avatar :)

This is gonna make you kinda jealous: I bought the guitar where Mike bought
his! When I asked the seller about Opeth he told me he knew Mike, because
Mike had actually worked in this very shop for six years! Wrote his first
material there.

"Acoustic guitars/steel string: CF Martin 00016GT (with Fishman pickup), CF Martin 00028, Takamine EF385 (12string), Seagull S6CW (with Fishman pick up)
Acoustic guitars/classical nylon: Amalio Burguet 3am (cedar top), Landola CT2/w. Fishman pickup "
thats what it says about accoustics
