What Dimmu Borgir should I check out

Same as you I have no great knowledge of their repertoir, so my proposition would be "Spiritual Black Dimensions" and "World Misanthropy". There is quite a few songs in those two albums you might admire... I'm sure, you'll get more qualified respones from the other guys.:kickass:

Individual songs:

Progenies of the great apocalypse
Kings of the carnival creation (live version; studio version sucks)
Arcane lifeforce mysteria
Puritania
mourning palace
Spellbound
Sorgens Kammer-Del Il

What I've heard from the new record On Sorte Diaboli sounds great. Only other record I know is Death Cult Armageddon and that's pretty cool too but I can't really name highlights of each record.

World misanthropy isn't even an album, but a dvd. Spiritual black dimensions is also imho Dimmu's least interesting album.

Try Stormblåst or Enthrone darkness triumphant.

Death Cult Armageddon is probably their least interesting just going by the books cd.

I prefer the following 3 cds:
enthrone darkness triumphant
spiritual black dimensions
puritanical euphoric misanthropia

I prefer the original stormblast even though the 2nd one has better production

The new one is excellent, I think it's their best yet, World Misanthropy is actually a 2-DVD 1-CD Box set in germany, It's just got 2 Studio songs on the disc, Their some unreleased stuff (They sound awesome though) Devi's Path (2000) and Masses For The New Messiah (Best song) But go to the website dimmu-borgir.com and check out the new video they got up on myspace, It kicks ass.

I am listening to their new one right now. So far it sounds like they were too busy taking money from ESP to play shitty knock-offs of Jackson Rhoads guitars to focus on making a good album. It's not the worst, but so far it lacks anything that really grabs me.
