I need to find a gate that doesnt artifact the tails of guitar notes. I have and dislike GGate, Reagate, GreenGate, Floorfish. Seeing as these are freebies,or Im doing something wrong that Im unaware of??? Im looking to purchase something that wont affect the tone, but just work.

Suggestions Please.

always edit guitartracks by hand.
that's the only proper way to do it

i don't even gate toms, i'll cut them by hand too. vocals, same thing (although i pretty much do most of that while tracking them).

thinking about it, i only use gates on snare, e.g. sidechaining a gate on the bottom mic to the top mic to get rid of the kick drum resonating with the snare wires, and i sometimes use it on my kicks but more to shape the envelope rather than cutting noise.
well, actually, i do that with toms too, if there's a weird resonance. i'll still get rid of the bleed by hand though.
this way you have much much more control over things. and it doesn't take ages either...

even after cutting bleed/crap/whatever by hand, i still find myself using a gate on toms...usually to cut down the sustain. but guitars? 100% by hand, always
