Well,

I was talking to this friend, who I really respect because he's a very skilled musician (guitarrist, drummer, bass player, he's good in anything he plays) and for the nth time we were talking about drummers, so I, once again, told him there was no drummer I heard that could fill all the gaps like Giuseppe Orlando. He, tired of hearing me say that, asked me: Tell me some albums of them, so I will download them and see how good he is - you just got me curious. He's not into doom metal, actually he's not a lot into metal, although he's been a lot influenced by progressive metal acts. So, my question is, if you were to tell someone a song that features some of the hardest, technical-most works of Giuseppe, which songs/album would it be?

I myself, usually use the song "Homecomming" as a show-off of his work, but dunno, there're others which got some impressive drum works, but I never get to remember them. Any sugestions?

Yeah, "Homecomming" is the best display of his talent and creativity. You can notice that there are different tempos... In fact Arte Noveccento is more prog - in Novembre's own way. It would be great to see the band jamming with Mike Portnoy!!! I also like a lot what Giuseppe does on "Cold Blue Steel" from Classica album; and Everasia from Novembrine Waltz.
By the way do you know where I can get some Abstracta album?

Personally I think Mike Porntoy wouldn't be able to keep up with Giuseppe's madness, secondly I think he'd suck as much as he does on DT...I really hate him and his fuckin' overrated band.

As for Abstracta, Well, I've some of their stuff on mp3. It's not as good as Novembre, it goes closer to porntoy's band but their vocals is, to my ears, much better. Overall I didn't like it much, but I keep it for some reason...just like some other stuff of Giuseppe and Massimiliano.

I will upload it to yousendit one of these days and drop here the link

:OMG: Gee... I never thought you don't like DT... Anyways, I won't mess with anyone's preferences.
Yes, if you could be so kind to upload those Abstracta mp3s, I really would appreciate it.

Portnoy is maybe a good musician, but just a shit-bag like the others in DT, they're too much overrated, they lack a lot of good musical taste (especially in the last albums) and he's absolutely less interesting than Peppe Orlando or other great metal drummers like Hellhammer or Kevin Talley, to name some... It would NOT be great at all to see Novembre jamming with that asshole, as it was very hard to listen to Peppe Orlando wasted into boring power metal recordings...
About the question, I think you have to show your friend all the albums from Arte Novecento to Novembrine Waltz: a superficial listening won't be enough to appreciate it, however if your friend is not into metal but progressive stuff it will be harder for him to appreciate it, especially if you're showing the drumming as "the most technical things he can do"... prog-drummers fans tend to be kinda "elitarian" and narrow-minded about it :puke:

No, I don't. I mean, I can appreciate a couple of albums, but not to the extent the average prog fan does. I never noticed drums being special in DT, the only thing that always popped to the ear in the form of "Impressive!" was their synth player and guitarrist, not the other members. If you look into porntoy's forum, you'll see he's a total egocentric dumbass who treats their fans worse than legends tell about Novembre. But hey, don't be upset, I was just putting my opinion which happened to be against yours, all opinions are valid here though :headbang: And I pretty much agree with worn's reply

Well, I haven't dig enough on what Mike Portnoy thinks about his fans. I have heard some bad things, like for example he is a fan of rap music, which in fact that sucks.
I really disliked that Train Of Thoughts album, but I still recognize he is an excellent drummer and I am also a fan of Liquid Tension Experiment. Anyways this forum is not about DT, that is another type of brutal death metal. So forget about it.
I'm not upset. I really like this gathering of opinions.
By the way have you thought about any other show off song?

Well, "Let Me Hate", it is more brutal than technical/creative but there's quite some interesting drum details. Also on Pioggia, there're a few stylistic/creative drum patterns. I guess all songs has some stuff, because Novembre aren't about extremes, they balance quite well their bag of tricks (except on a few songs from Wish which are more flat, but given how young they were...) but homecomming is like... the best drumming parts. The song is straight and simple, but the drums...add so much life to it!

I didn't say it's awful. It's much better than DT at least  but, it's not as amusing as Novembre, neither his drumming...but you know, that type of sound didn't caught me much, so I haven't heard it very well yet and don't feel like listening to it much either :)
