Pretty straight forward poll.

Is it feeling/emotion which is exhuded? technicality? brutality? Innovation?

Personally, I dont care if they are technical, brutal, innovative (though its a plus). The #1 thing I look for in music is feeling. If it captures my emotions and overwhelms my being, said album is a treasure.

I'm just curious, although I have a good idea of how this poll will turn out in this forum.

it's all about the melodies... it can be simple or complex... but it needs to have something that is impressive and memorable...

Dude. Emotion. No question.

Although innovation generally plays a role in making me like something, but it's the emotional impact that truly makes me love an album. I can and do appreciate the technical aspect of albums with thrash and death metal (Nile, Megadeth, Vital Remains, etc.). Brutality doesn't really apply since I prefer a little variety in aural assault, although stuff like Aborted kicks me straight in the teeth so I can appreciate that.

Out of the reasons you've listed, I say feeling/emotion. I can't say much of what I listen to is very technical, I think liking a kind of music because it's "brutal" or whatever is ridiculous (IMNSHO), and innovation isn't entirely necessary as long as it is quality and not a complete clone.

Ya, listening to music for the sheer essence of brutality IS ridiculous. I do know some people in the DM circles though that base their opinion on this. Do not ask me why...

I dont care what fucking genre a band may be ascribed to, as long as it, in some way or another touched me, I will absolutely love it. I am a fan of good music.

This poll is easy peasy lemon squeezy.

If something is innovative, technical, or brutal BUT it lacks emotion & feeling, then down the toilet it goes.

Emotion all the way baby. To infinity and beyond! :kickass:

A couple of the guys up on the kayo dot thread are already talking about the new isis...

I can get into music just for the chops (one listen to entwhistle's bass playing on "Live at Leeds" will make you a fan of the bass guitar for life) but sure, it all comes down to "do I want to listen to it again", and that is all about songwriting, with a hook and melody. That sounds horribly simplistic and very pop musicish, but tr00

Emotion - but from my end. An important factor in my favourite albums is usually what memories they evoke and what musical doors will open. The usual aforementioned stuff applies, but this also adds to the emotion for me :)

Looking back at my collection I am left with the realization that I have very little melodic music. I guess everyone that knows me is right, I am a emotionless bastard.

If I had to choose one of the choices provided, I'd have to go with "emotion". However, I'm not sure I can breakdown why I like an album to one word. I believe it's more complex than that.

I don't consider melodicism and emotion the same, in fact they are wholly distinct descriptions to me.
