What metal songs have blown your mind?

too many to name. among them:

Primordial - The Coffin Ships
Arghoslent - Flogging the Cargo
Mourning Beloveth - Narcissistic Funeral
Abyssic Hate - Depression I
Anti - Nothing (this band needs to release another CD soon. Great stuff.)
Katatonia - Tomb of Insomnia
Paradise Lost - Crying for Eternity
Burzum - Det Som Engang Var
Mjolnir - Im Banne der Nacht
Amorphis - Exile of the Sons of Uisliu (well, several songs on that album)
Dismember - Override of the Overture

the last two blew me away some 15,16 years ago.

Dismember - Where Angels fear to Tread
Opeth - Deliverance
Metallica - No Remorse
Bloodbath - Cry my Name
Sepultura - Desperate Cry
Kreator - Tormentor
Arch Enemy - Dehumanization
Exodus - Fabulous Disaster, The Last Act of Defiance
Slayer - Angel of Death
Iron Maiden - Alexander the Great

Just to name a few

Impious: Extreme Pestilence (they have YET to make a song this good)
System Of A Down: Holy Mountain (yeah yeah, I know...great song though)
Down: Jail
Cannibal Corpse: Frantic Disembowelment
Scars On Broadway: They Say (I really wanted to hate this shit too, but it reminds me of old-school L7)
Blodsrit:The Glorious Rise Of Flames
Pantera: Floods
Acid Bath: Scream Of The Butterfly, Dead Girl, Bones Of Baby Dolls.....and many more. Absolutely one of the best bands on the planet.
Deicide: Scars Of The Crucifix (an excellent "comeback" if you will)
Kataklysm: The Road To Devastation (best track from Kataklysm....EVER)
Epica: Chasing The Dragon (very uncharacteristic of my tastes, but a beautiful song)

Hmmmm just in terms of "Blows my mind" every time I hear it,
I would Have to say Hearts Alive by Mastodon. It really is the ultimate example of what they do, it really does have an ambience, and it is one of those tracks that takes you on a journey. At 13 minutes to me, it never seems long, and the payoff at the end of the song is just the most amazing riff I have ever heard. I absolutely adore this track and would recommend it to anyone.:worship:

Behold...the Arctopus - Skullgrid, Some Mist, You Are Number Six
Boris - Blackout
The Axis of Perdition - In The Hallway Of Crawling Filth, The World Made Flesh
Martyr - Warp Zone
Spiral Architect - Spinning
Peccatum - Stillness

Abigor-most songs
Dissection-Night's Blood
Burzum-Det Som En Gang var
Candlemass-A Sorceror's Pledge
Metallica-Fight Fire With Fire
Hate Forest-The Gates
Cryptopsy-Phobophile

and loads more

His best indeed. You should all hear the Aborym cover of the song. Very well done and unique.

Do they take out the start and just begin at the part where it goes mental? I've heard a cover that does that, dunno if it was Aborym's though.

Det Som Engang Var is his best song btw.

Yes. It's on one of the tribute albums, but also on Fire Walk With Us.

IMO the single best Burzum songs must be (no real order):

-Ea, Lord Of The Depths
-Jesu Død (or "Jesus' Tod" as it is usually known)
-Det Som En Gang Var
-Tomhet
-Ansuzgardaraiwô
-My Journey To The Stars
