What other types of music do Maiden/ Maidens fans enjoy?

I love the tone, sound and emotion of the voice of Karen Carpenter and Barry Manilow. Ahhhhh.......such emotion and tone can bring tears to my eyes! I tend to like either the soft stuff or the agressive stuff, rarely in between, but not as far angry as the death/thrash stuff. Kinda describes my Irish temperament! I also like a lot of classic "old school" metal. I love Steve Vai and Eric Johnson too. (mmmmm....more great tone!) ...errrrr

Karen Carpenter had an amazing voice. I have their CD too. She was one of those 70's voices that was totally unique and signature. Kind of like Jim Croce, Cat Stevens others like that with those voices that you know who they are as soon as they sing the first note.

Irish temperment? Do you get into any celtic stuff?

I loved John Lennon's music. "Imagine" makes me cry every time. Especially now that he is gone! How about Paul McCartney's "Hey Jude"? He wrote that one for Julian Lennon because of the rift with his father. Or Eric Clapton's "Heaven" for his 4-year old son he lost? So many sad songs that can touch your heart at the same time. Okay, now I just ruined myself! (but in a good way!) Excuse me while I go blow my nose.

Want a good sad song is "Comfortably Numb" - Pink Floyd. The deep slow string bending and harmonic overton does it, but there are other songs though that also rip my heart of my chest, even ZZTop has one "Rough Boy", man I used to play that one alot, I should play it again, that and "I need you tonight" - the perfect Blues Rock tune.

Ripping your heart out of your chest.. Guitars have a way doing that, don't they?

I love Joni Mitchell to death she's been a great influence on me as a writer and in harmony arrangements. Court and Spark is one of my all time favorite albums. Chaka Khan is another heroine of mine. One of the greatest female voices I've ever heard (check out her version of the jazz classic Night in Tunisia. The vocal arrangements are incredible, like a horn section and she wails like a trumpet.) That record also has one of the funkiest and most creative covers of a Lennon/McCartney tune (We Can Work It Out) I've ever heard. When you hear that stuff it makes you scratch your head that she won a Grammy for a silly song like I Feel For You. Better to be acknowledged than ignored, I guess.....

When I'm into mellow tone I also like to listen to Richard Bona. His voice is gorgeous and he's also a great bass player. Really beautiful stuff! On the ladies side, I agree, no one can beat Karen Carpenter for that pure gorgeous alto tone.

There's a less well known singer named TaTa Vega (she sang the closing credits song in the film The Color Purple.) She's incredible and very moving. She performs around town on occasion (and also in Europe, I've heard). I've been lucky enough to have caught her a few of the rare times she performs. She's literally brought me to tears.

I like Linda Ronstad too. She dug into her roots and found out she was Hispanic and started getting into Mariachi music. That was crazy! But you know, she kicks ass on that music. Mariachi is like Opera to Spanish people. You need to have a powerful voice for that. She's got it!

I've always loved Linda Ronstadt's voice. Here's a little trivia for you : I remember reading an interview by her and she said that she really didn't enjoy being a rock singer! (in fact she hated it!) I believe her father was a mariachi musician and she grew up listening to mariachi music around the house, so it really was in her blood. It was her dream to sing it to honor her father. Nice story, ya? Just goes to show what happens when you follow your heart!!!

Tom Petty was such a big part of my growing up. (up until Long After Dark) "American Girl" is still one of my all-time fav songs for whatever reason. It was also the first song I learned to play on the pencils and school books before I ever got my first tupperware kit. LOL!

Thanks much... Even though I love my Maiden, keeping an open ear can open you up to a bunch of new and different things. If a song has good guitar tone in it, I am all over it.... sometimes I wish I had picked up the guitar when I was younger than 19, I have been in ,love with that instrument since I was a little kid.

Living Colour blew me away and made me happy at the same time, that an all black band could play awesome rock and broke that illusion that only white guys with long hair could play rock music and *do it well*. Anytime I think about Living Colour I think of the lyric in Body Count's song "There Goes The Neighborhood";

Don't they know rock's just for whites?
Don't they know the rules?
Those ****** are too hardcore
This shit ain't cool

Those blacks want everything
In the fuckin' world!

I know that you girls in TIMs run into that kind of crap on a regular basis, as there is still some stigma attached to a band that has members outside of what was considered the norm, though it was much worse back in the heyday of rock and metal.

I have alot of the Hard Rock/Metal banda that've been listed already, but I don't have the kinda money to get everything I like, you can only get so much on SSI. My collection runs from Zeppelin to Queensryche, with lots in between. I don't like much that was made pre-'70, except Zep, Jimi, and the Who. Also don't have anything made post-'94, 'cept for the five WWF music discs(I am a wrestling fan). All that grunge crap and trash metal I just can't get into. I admit to loving the pop metal shit, and the top40/AOR crap too. None of the new stuff gets me off, but I do like Shakira, her music is unlike anyone else's, and it rocks! I collect music videos, too! Didn't get cable 'til '94, so I've got alot of old hard rock/ metal tapes from the Headbanger's Ball era. Sweet!

Styx Live 2001 reunion tour CD, I know not too many of you have but it’s a really good one. Yea the sound quality is superb.

Okay all the songs are good, you should really hear “Crystal Ball”; it’s much much better then the studio version.

The 12 string acoustic sounds slappy against the frets like rubber bands, beautiful sound, and the solo just has no equal, it’s totally beautiful and rips your heart right out, longer with added voice overs and pinch harmonic, just great...

One of the most beautiful solos I’ve ever heard, cause it’s so musical as opposed to just mechanical. I can say a lot more about that album, but that’s enough.

Yeah, I have all of Queensryche's stuff. Operation Mindcrime II has already been added to their tour. They played at Vieja's casino like four days after the MaidenS played with Empyre (Queensryche tribute) at Cane's. This show was OM I & II. Too bad Chris DeGarmo isn't with the band anymore. The new guy is alright, but Chris was bad ass!

Here is one of my all time favorite songs to play, and that is “Blue Collar Man”, yea it’s crunchy, funky and it rawks , yea your fingers dance waltz to the rhythm on that solo, it’s right up the with the “Wicker Man” in fun songs.
