What pickups would you recommend for...

What pickups would you guys recommend for a Basswood Body?

Right now I have an 81 in there and its a bit fuzzy sounding...

I'm pretty sure its the guitar body, because I have another just like it and the 81 sounds good in that one...

I was thinking I might have to go passive... although I was also thinking about swapping it out for an 85...

Any opinions?

Try an 85. For passives I'd try Duncan Customs or Full Shreds, or DiMarzio PAFs or D Sonics - depending on what you're after in the pickup.

wow... this 85 ( although it was a hassle to put in without changing/removing strings) sounds WAY better ...

and actually... using an 85 gets rid of the annoying Line6 fizz that usually just wont go away...

it does seem like its lacking something, though...

After consulting this board, I swapped a Full Shred into my basswood Jackson - it sounds great, and balanced out the guitar's natural response in a way that the JB hadn't.

yes, i took the 81 out and swapped it with the 85 (neck pup) from my hellraiser...

So I just put the 85 in the bridge and 81 in the neck (swap) in my jackson...holy shit!! That sounds so much cleaner, bassier, and crunchier!!
