Pain Of Salvation - The Perfect Element Pt. 1

The Black Mages

All KILLER albums. :D

I was kinda dissapointed with the Black Mages album. It didn't have nearly as much guitar and metal in it as it let on to have. Like I heard the boss theme song from FFVII when it first came out and it sounded awesome. But when I got all the songs I found out that that was prob the heaviest song on it and that the FFVII boss theme song already had a guitar sound in the original and is why it was so guitar heavy. I like FF music but I didn't want all the original songs with just a little bit of guitar added, the tracks still were VERY keyboard heavy and they were merely remixes of the originals like they have done a gazillion times with FF game music.

BTW....I have been getting into PoS ever since I received Remedy Lane and am thinking of getting another of their albums, which is best to get? I mean does their sound vary from album to album or is it pretty much the same sound as in Remedy Lane? Oh......and the last albums I ordered were Adagio-Underworld and Pain of Salvation-Remedy Lane. I also ordered Pagan's Mind- Celestial Entrance and Secret Sphere's second newest album but they were out and I have to get later.

SymphonyXJapan:

I was incredibly pleased with The Black Mages, and I think their keyboard-heavy sound is far better than a guitar-heavy sound. I <3 keyboards. :D

Anyway, I'd get PoS' "The Perfect Element Pt. 1" next. :)

Lets see, I buy CD's in big batches so, here is the most recent new release batches I bought.....

Voice - Soulhunter
Dream Evil - Children of the night EP
Gothic Knights - Up from the ashes
Revoltons - Night visions
Iron Ware - Break out
Dreamtale - Oceans Heart (Japan edition)
Dark Fire - S/T (Japan Edition)
Morifade - Domi<>Nation (Japan edition)

After posting that earlier message I was listening to samples on their site and it sounded like the songs from the one you mentioned sound REALLY good. So that will prob be next. And then their new one that comes out in like March or something. I don't mind the way it sounds (the black mages) but its just that the whole idea and concept of the project was to play the battle songs from the FF series and play them in a metal/rock form. They just didn't deliver what they claimed to deliver.

Tell me more man!! I want more info. I'll definatly be getting it as soon as i can as he's my favourite guitarist, but cant you elaborate?:)

Hey, Mr. Shred-ididle, Greg Howe is my favorite too, man! That new album is just mind blowing. It's his most jazzy/fusiony album to date and in my opinion the best album since Parallax (which is and will always be my favorite Howe album). His tone is so awesome, it's got so much balls; his long legato lines are smooth and inhuman as always, and plays all that crazy stuff while soloing over fast moving, complicated chord changes; the most incredible thing about the guy is his phrasing, simply out of this world.
That's for his guitar playing. Then the tunes. Greg did an awesome job at writing killer fusion tunes with catchy kick ass riffs and lines, and those grooves are totally over the top (that groove in track 2 - OMFG!!!!). Victor Wooten contributes a lot to those killer grooves with his amazing bass playing and his intelligent use of syncopation in the bass lines and riffs. Concernign the tunes, I think the album is much better than Hyperacuity (which had some awesome tracks, especially tracks 1, 2 and 3, but after that, it sounded like it was done on the fly and lacked good compositions in the end).
You'll also like the fact that there's a Holdsworth cover on the album (Proto Cosomos, which Allan recorded with Tony Williams' Lifetime in the 70's). Howe is playing like a god on that tune.
To sum it up, get this album as soon as you can, you won't regret it. Fusion doesn't get any better than Greg Howe!!!!

Recently got Edge of Thorns by Savatage (i hate savatage... too rock/cheesy but the vocals rule and i love the title track) and today i got the new king diamond... haven't listened to the album, but i did watch the dvd and it's awesome.

I suuure do. My name is black_metal_blows@msn.com. (those are underscores, not spaces) Maybe I could hear you play guitar. Not online too often though.

Oh and the last album I bought was Cryptopsy's Whisper Supremecy.

Recently got the new King Diamond and the new Iced Earth EP (single). Both are very impressive. I was also quite surprised by the King Diamond album. Finally some fresh sounding stuff from him!!
