...Are you thinking of Valfar? He was Norwegian, was the main force behind Windir (he's in my avatar). He died freezing to death on his way to his cottage (unfortunate, but gr1m none the less) However we might be thinking of completely different people.

I think that's got to be it. The only Finnish death that I can think of that's 'similar' is the Finntroll/Impaled Nazarene guy that fell/jumped off a bridge....
