I talked to a German speaking friend who's in South Africa so he know Afrikaans, Dutch, and basically every European language and he said that in Dutch, I believe, it meant "from the farm". I remember sending him an MP3 of the band and laughed when saw the band's name.
Sorry to bring this one out of the dumpster, but after seeing an article about the new Jaguar Vanden Plas, I looked a littler further. And according to this article, it's named for a famous British maker of custom automobile bodies:
Ummm... why everyone thinks they are a comedian ? I know exactly what Vanden Plas is. I will give you two definitions:
1) A Belgian coach builder that has helped build automobiles for automotive manufacturers such as Jaguar and Austin. A couple of the designs they made for Austin were pretty comedic.
2) The most kick-ass prog-metal band in the world. It is said that Andy Kunts (singer) and Stephan Lill (guitarist) have dropped to the floor of the stage on all fours and did an old Cheech and Chong skit by acting like dogs and smelling each other's butts, but I would not guarantee that to be part of the performance at their American debut at PPIV.
