Whats The Damnation Game sound like????

The Damnation Game is tied (with V) as my overall favorite symphony x album. In my opinion, every single song on the album is good, and it has a nice wide range from pretty heavy fast stuff, to more relaxing tranquil sounds. It is totally worth checking out.

I agree; i bought 'divine wings,' 'twilight,' and 'V' over the course of a few months, thinking that anything before 'diving wings' wouldn't be up to par w/the newer stuff. A friend of mine took a risk and bought 'damnation game' and played it. It was great...the production is much better than i had thought it would be, and the quality of the songs is quite impressive for such a young band. Buy it.

It is definitely essential Symphony X. The production isn't quite as grandiose as the later stuff, but it isn't bad. Actually, I kind of like the rawer sound at times. Michael Romeo is more shred happy on it than on V with longer solos that sound like stuff he did on The Dark Chapter. I love the title cut, Edge of Forever, and Dressed to Kill. Dressed to Kill is actually one of my absolute favorites by SyX.

The Edge Of Forever and Winter's Dream alone make this album essential. As someone pointed out, SX was still in transition at this point, and as a result some songs either sound tentative or don't have the chemistry present on the subsequent albums. In the musicianship however, the leap towards DWOT is in evidence...great performances all around.

I agree. If you are okay with DWOT's production, you really won't have an issue with Damnation's. And Edge of Forever is freaking awesome. It may be my least fav Symphony X album, but that doesn't say much! All of them rock! And this one is great!
Get it. Zeus and Ra will get you if you don't. ;)
