Here's my current situation

and an alternative

Vaulted ceilings- 15" vertically, 21" horizontally

So which orientation would best suit the room?

I would probably orient it the second way you showed. Mainly because that way the monitors are firing down a longer distance. This will help break up the low end nodes that would build up if you had it set up the first way you showed. Just make sure you treat the first reflection points on your left and right. And maybe you can use the vaulted portion of the ceiling above your desk there to help mount some sort of a cloud, since its already angled.

And go over to gikacoustics.com. They have real informative stuff on their videos/ education pages

Long Story short: The heshian is right. Face the shorter wall, it will give the low end more room to develop and result in less drastic null points/ peaks!

In the second example, one monitor is directly facing a wall that is a short distance away from it, while the other monitor faces a wall very far from it. This will make the responses of the two monitors very different. How is this better than the first? Even though I agree that the first is far from perfect, I think it may be the better option for now.

EDIT: Oh fuu me, I'm dyslexic today. Add that to the list... Disregard.

2. Having your monitors shooting towards one of the vaulted ceilings will deflect some of the sound into the floor/carpet and not back at your ears. If possible, I would suggest putting that futon behind you as well to breakup and absorb some of that shit you don't wanna hear since you still have pretty much a flat wall back there as well.

Number 2, definitely. You have really great ratios in the room, btw! As you have it in #2, there aren't any really evenly divisible measurements, so that reduces frequency buildup already. With your acoustic panels on the walls on either side and behind you (and in front), you'll have a pretty sweet setup!

Cool! I've got two 4x24x60 traps then six 2x24x48 absorbers (small room lots of flutter) and 6 more panels of 703 and 6 panels of Rockwool!

Picked up a new desk and set up the room today. Monitors are about 14" from the rear wall and almost 2 feet from each the other sides.

Theres two absorption panels behind me ATM and tomorrow I'm making more bass traps. I'll be reinforcing the 4" 704 corner traps with rockwool I picked up for super cheap locally.
