Agalloch- In the Shadow of Our Pale Companion

Through vast valleys I wonder
To the highest peaks
On pathways through a wild forgotten landscape
In search of God, in spite of man
'til the lost forsaken endless
This is where I choose to tread

Fall. . .so shall we fall into the nihil?
The nothingness that we feel in the arms of the pale
In the shadow of the grim companion who walks with us

Here is the landscape
Here is the sun
Here in the balance of the earth
Where is the god?
Has he fallen and abandoned us?

As I'm stalked by the shadow of death's hand
The fire in my heart is forged across the land

Here at the edge of this world
Here I gaze at a pantheon of oak, a citadel of stone
If this grand panorama before me is what you call God
Then God is not dead

I walked down to a river and sat in reflection of what had to be done
An offering of crimson flowed into the water below
A wound of spirit from which it floated and faded away

like every hope I've ever had
like every dream I've ever known
It washed away in a tide of longing, a longing for a better world
From my will, my throat, to the river, and into the sea
wash away
fade away

Here is the landscape
Here is the sun
Here at the edge of the earth
Where is the god?
Has he fallen to ruin?

As I'm stalked by the shadow of death's hand
My heathen pride is scarred across the land

This song means so much to me, and I relate very strongly to these lyrics...

The song I'm listening to has good lyrics. It's one hell of a song as well.

At the Gates - The Break of Autumn
Catch the rainbow if you can
It will alwawys be ahead of you

Years passing swifter than you ever thought
Today will soon be behind you
And the future remains out of reach

Hunting the sun, setting at the horison
When shadows threat to swallow your weak soul
The key of light, the solution of all
I saw it clearly behind the veil of reality
And as I dreamed the lilies white
In the shade of a birch
They withered in the frost of awakening

Fiery the angels fell from the spires of my fortress of youth
Silent explosions in my universe of pain

Appease my hunger, defeat my solitude
And let me follow where daydreams go
When ambitions fall

Watch the sky, there is proof of your transcience
The stars that saw the birth ofour ancestors
Shall watch our descendants last steps on earth
So, unnoticed we will pass away,
Like a flickering in the perpetual chaos

The timebird rose from it's nest of bones
And thrust it's beak in my eye
With the beat of charging wings
My transcience was confirmed

Time perhaps for a salutary sleep
I still long for that silent land of dreams
Where the flames expire, where the spark fades
And hunger is born again

There's so many more. I can't be bothered to name them.

I like a lot of Skyclad lyrics.

"No seed of hope nor ray of light, scant succour from the blighted epoch.
Rise like Socrates and fight; take hate's chalice laced with hemlock.
Mankind's retrograde ascent; we've wagered all for unseen winnings.
Evolution's youth misspent, it's time to forge bold new beginnings" - The Antibody Politic, Folkemon

I also dig some Thin Lizzy ones; they were never complex or artistic but they always scanned REALLY well. "With Love" is one of the few love songs that doesn't make me do this: :ill:

"I must confess that in my quest I've felt depressed and restless; but this Casanova's roaming days are over, more or less." - With Love, Black Rose

What else? Hmm, well there's Pulp:

"Why did it seem so difficult to realise a simple truth? The revolution begins and ends with you. Now all the breakdowns and nightmares seem small - now we decided not to die after all, because the meek shall inherit absolutely nothing at all. If you stopped being so feeble, you could have so much more." - The Day After the Revolution, This Is Hardcore.

Zyklon - Hammer Revelation

i cant say ive ever heard Zyklon. the name sounds like it would be some alien clan off of star trek tho. or possibly some nerd's favorite computer game.

no offense....what kind of metal is Zyklon?

I'm huge on Viking Metal so that list could be long. But Vintersorg, The Focusing Blur is great the songs are very deep and require you to think! I like that, but the best lyrics, I think are no doubt:

The lyrics Mortiis wrote for Emperor have a special place in my heart.

"The heaves are lit by the stars where years of secrets of universal
forces lay hid. They shine so bright, but yet they have seen more evil
than time itself. Reflected in the deepless lakes they are drowning in
black elements. They are the planetary keys to unlimited wisom and
power for the Emperor to obtain.."

".. Here is also a planet similar to the moon, but its
phases is only one and it is in its most powerful for all and ever.."

".. Much have been discovered, but tomorrow I will realise I existed before myself. I will be reborn before I die. I will realise planets ages old, created
by a rules with a crown of dragon claws, arrived with a stargate.."

(Taken from Cosmic Keys To My Creations And Times)

And, my favourite Emperor lyrics - I Am The Black Wizards:

"Mightiest am I, but I am not alone in this cosmos of mine. For the
black hills consists of black souls, souls that already dies one
thousand deaths. Behind the stone walls of centuries they breed their
black art. Boiling their spells in cauldrons of black gold. Far up in
the mountains, where the rain fall not far, yet the sun cannot
reach. The wizards, my servants, summon the souls of macrocosm. No age
will escape my wrath. I travel through time and I return to the
future. I gather wisdom now lost. I visit again the eternally ancient
caves, before a mighty Emperor thereupon came. Watching the mortals
"discovering" my chronicles, guarded by the old demons, even unknown
to me. Once destroyed their souls are being summoned to my timeless
prison of hate. It is delightful to feast upon the screaming souls
that was destroyed in my future. How many wizards that serve me with
evil. I know not. My empires has no limits. From the never ending
mountains black, to the bottomless lakes. I am the ruler and has been
for eternity's long. My wizards are many, but their essence is
mine. Forever there are in the hills in their stone homes of
grief. Because I am the spirit of their existence. I am them."
