I'm sure this query has been asked many times, but I'm pretty new here, and don't know many people that like Opeth as much as I do.

So... I'd like to hear your thoughts about this!

What album is your favorite, and why is it your favorite?

Still Life is definitely mine. I don't know why, really. Perhaps it's the amazing opener, "The Moor," followed by my favorite Opeth song "Godhead's Lament." The rest of the songs are also very good. "Face Of Melinda" just has an essence about it. As does "Serenity Painted Death." There's something about the album as a whole, that thoroughly intriuges me. I find it an epic composition highly worthy of its praise.

Still Life. It's backed up by excellent production, a great story / lyrics, big atmosphere, perfect vocals, and it has really strange / eerie sounding melodies that you will not find in your everyday metal CD. I think the music goes perfectly with the concept. In my book, it's the best album of all time.

I wanted to conduct my own poll, so that I didn't have to bother bumping the old ones that I knew existed. :ill:

Plus, I wanted to know why it was a favorite, not just... what is your favorite.

I was expecting responses like this.

Oh well.

I think for now, it's BWP. But I'm changing always. Sometimes it's still Life, depending on my mood, sometimes it's deliverance, if i'm getting tired of all the clean vocals and mellow parts, then morningrise, if i want some old school folk/progressive Opeth.

But it's between BWP and MAYH. Those albums are essential.

I've really been enjoying Morningrise lately. Listened to it several times the other day and found myself humming some of the parts as I went to bed.
But, consistently, I'd say Still Life is my favorite. High-quality and high-energy tracks all of them. Also, the first Opeth song I learned to play on guitar is Godhead's. That must say something about why I like it.

mmmmm a tough question. I will go for MAYH for its great concept, lyrics and songs as a whole. Just pushes in front of Still Life and Morningrise for me.

If you have it recorded, I'd like to hear you playing Godhead's. :)

Deliverance.
The tracks are solid and can be listened to again and again without wearing thin, at least for me.

I think it has to be Morningrise for me. It changes each time I listen to them.

I loved Orchid when it first came out, but Morningrise blew me away instantly. The next few grew on me more gradually.

Ditto

My Arms, Your Hearse, the whole album is awesome, April Ethereal and Demon of the Fall really stand out though.

I don't see what the fuss over Still Life is, The Moor is ok, the rest of it is pretty boring.
