Morningrise

I find its melodies to be more beautiful than anything else they've recorded. The acoustic work is also more enjoyable to these ears. Still Life comes in second.

Morningrise I keep going back to it. Amazing songs. 3 of my top 5 Opeth songs are on that album.

Still Life. Wasn't always my favourite, but is at the moment. Every album has been a favourite at some stage, usually when I'm listening to it.

BWP has it all. The complete package, and if you could pinpoint where the band peaked, I think this is it.

If I was pointing a new fan to a first CD to buy, I would guide them to BWP - from there, you could guide them in a number of different directions depending on the songs they liked.

Still Life is right behind it - BWP is just a little bit more musically mature.

Disclaimer - BWP was the first CD I bought of Opeth, so there you go....

My Arms, Your Hearse, the whole album is awesome, April Ethereal and Demon of the Fall really stand out though.

I don't see what the fuss over Still Life is, The Moor is ok, the rest of it is pretty boring.

+1 for still life being overrated. To me still life is the weak link in the opeth front. None of the songs really stand out. I thought the masterpiece was morningrise. I know that is the album that got me into them. MAYH has more of an essence to it than anything on still life. Besides the intro to moonlapse vertigo it's boring as sh**. The songs all have this similar sound to them, and it gets old fast.Other forums seem to like BWP the best.
