What's your ULTIMATE Guitar?

Greywolf ... you have to play my Classic Quilt top. Its a SUPER thin neck like an ESP / Ibby ... the thing fucking SLAYS!!!

I'd love to try it. But my problem with LP's isn't the neck thickness, it's the scale. Also, I'm just never comfortable playing arch tops for some reason.

My dream guitars? I have them. Mexican Tele with Duncan Hot Rails in the bridge, Schecter Hellraiser Sunset FR with EMG's, and my baby...80's Ibanez RG550 with original Edge trem, maple neck (I love maple!) and Duncan (Lynch) Screamin' Demon in the bridge. Other guitars come and go, but you'll have to pry my Ibby from my cold, dead hands.

The only other guitar I'd like to add is this:

Tony, if you ever get tired of yours, I'd be glad to take it off your hands. ;)

I was the same way till 6 months ago. I been an Ibby play for 20 years ... something just snapped in me 6 months ago. Sold all my Ibbys for ....

I am just IN LOVE with them. Especially the Bullseye, it sounds fucking FANTASTIC. The only thing I hate about the Bullseye is the Gold Hardware, luckily the guitar is used and its got a ton of battle scars so it gives it some character ...lol (FYI one of the black ones is a trans black quilt top)

What do you feel is missing about the sound?

'Too muddy' is a term I've heard, and one I'd probably ascribe myself. A thick maple laminate on the mahogany body, and perhaps maple neck with ebony fretboard could counter-act some of those characteristics. There is a certain low-mid thickness I enjoy about mahogany, but I think it needs to be mixed up with brighter woods in order to balance the tonality.

Not sure how the 707s stack up to other 7 string pickups though. I've only ever compared it to the 81-7. The audible fret clacking bothers me a bit about the 707, but otherwise it seems like a solid pickup.

Hmm, maple top is good idea. Just reminded me that I used to own a 6 string guitar with a mahogany body and maple top. The top really makes a good difference.
As for the 707, easily the best 7 string pickup I've tried so far. Better than the Blackouts and also better than any of the passive 7 string pickups I've heard.

Les Pauls are just awesome

I also prever the thick necks with the smaller scale to the thinner ibanez-like necks.
But I'm a rhythm player and not a fast lead player, and got used to thick necks with 8 years of classical guitar I guess haha

altho the next guitar I'll be getting will be a brighter (alder or something) one with passives, as opposed to my ultimate guitar I posted

Same story here, I sold all my Ibz for set neck/neck thru guitars (les paul, soloist) the difference is very noticeable.

My perfect guitar would be a little weird. Probably something like a Les Paul custom with just a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge with an original floyd rose in silverburst.

totally!

Melb: go and paint your fingernails black!

otherwise : very sexy axe!

Haha... Been there... Did that, didn't like the maintanance :p
But seriously... Wait til you lads see my next beast... I'll post pics when it's finished. Won't be for another 1.5montgs though. Shame!

Went through so many guitars and realized that I'll have to go with a custom, since there always something about every guitar I couldn't stand (most often the necks). So I got these made:

I always wondered how you managed to play on that kind of frets? I mean bending must be a real pain in the ass
