What's your usual tracking order with bands?

Yeah, what Jeff posted is pretty much ideal for me, but unfortunately proper preproduction and a day or two for scratch tracks is a luxury. I think I'll just try to make bands understand their importance even harder

just tell them that you won't track without a click

a band i worked with recently didn't much like the idea of it, but after tracking drums instantly saw the value of it and were glad as hell that we spent a few hours working out tempo tracks beforehand. if anyone questions you on it, just tell them the honest truth that no click now = bullshit hassles later!

Some kind of mix-up here, I pretty much never track without a click and so far no-one has had a problem with that

Drums then guitar. Here's why I do guitar before bass: bass is much harder to notice when it out of tune. Guitars you can pretty much notice right away.
