For someone who likes the American flag on all thier posts, I would think you'd buy American when you could........ BTW my Dakota has 133,000 on it and all i've replaced is brakes and tires. o_O
Actually, you're very lucky. When my husband worked at a Dodge dealership, Dakotas are almost all he worked on, and they were all major problems.

Ya know, Brat, it's always a crapshoot, I know a gal whose Lincoln is a lemon and a guy I work with has a Chevette he drives everyday, it's got to be 20 yo! We build the best damn diesels in the world were I work and I am proud of that....built in the USA baby!!!

True. In 2000, I had an '86 Cavalier that drove like it was built that year. It would still run that way, if I hadn't sold it to my dad, who doesn't understand the concept of "preventative maintenance". My '86 RamCharger is a big load of crap, though.

Show me ONE reliable car made in the US, and I might buy it. I'm all for buying American, but I prefer things that WORK. The Japenese have pride in their work, and they don't intentionally make shit that is sure to need repairing. (I think Ford makes parts that won't last, so you'll have to replace them$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$).
:D

And like you said, to each his own.
I'm sure my car was assembled in the US, but with reliable parts.... :D
Now, to be truely AMERICAN, I'm gonna have a Sam Adams! I'll have one for you too, MichiMikey.

Thinking about Coors makes me want to go to the brewery again!

The japanese market is something good to capitalize on in my opinion. Remember the trailer for S.O.D.? It's as if they were the Beatles the way the fans are out there. I think I'm gonna crack open a Sapporo now. Or maybe a Tsing Tsao

Well, in my experience, alot of cars turn into lemons after they've been in major car accidents.

It's all good, Alex. That truck was rear ended about 9 years ago! I bought it a couple years after the accident. The passenger's door needs to be shut HARD, but that's the only problem from the accident.
As for the guy's Econoline, the van that rear ended it, I bet that's junk now. :D

Remember that girl I was telling you about earlier in this thread. We went out last night. The bar we were at had too many people from our job. We left and fooled around a little while and then I dropped her off. She's HOT. She's the kind of girl that everyone turns to check out when she walks in the bar.

I know you're from Michigan so I'll forgive you for your bad economics.
Buying from abroad promotes the law of competitive advantage, whereby goods are made where it is most efficient to make them.

If Tad sends American dollars to Japan, the only place those dollars can be spent is ultimately in America. You can't have exports without imports.

Furthermore, what if I said to you "you should only buy goods from white people. Do what you want by buying from blacks, Asians and Hispanics, but I will continue to support my people." Wouldn't that be appalling? Well, that is how I look at your statement.

All this car talk makes me realize I need a new truck real bad. And for Econmics, you guys are starting to remind me of mgt class in college. American and Japanese mgt styles and case studies. Oh hell time for a Budweiser.

Justin, WTF does race have to do with economics, or geography have to do with loyalty? Have you ever heard of NAFTA? Have you checked the dollar or the trade DEFECIT lately? If you find the statement that I will support my country appalling, it is you, sir, that lack the qualities that you have elluded to that I myself lack.

I switched from economics to philosophy without specifically stating that. Sorry.

I have seen the trade deficit. Every month I laugh because the news reports how big it is, like it's going to kill us. The trade deficit is simply the amount of foreign invesment in the US. Why do foreigners invest in the US? Because it's a good place to invest! Iraq and other third world nations have had trade surpluses. They're not all they're made out to be.

As for economics, again I will say that whatever American dollars are sent abroad must eventually be used in the United States whether it's buying consumer goods or investing.

As for philosophy, I don't see why I should be expected to purchase more expensive and/or lower quality goods for some alleged national collectivist benefit. You can "support your country" all you want. I will support whoever gives me the best product for the best price, regardless of whether that person is Asian, European, American or whatever.

Oh, and by the way, there is a Honda plant within a half-hour from my house in the middle of Ohio.

Race and economics do go hand in hand. For example:

At a supermarket near my apt, they don't carry any hispanic products. At the same identical supermarket near my aunt's house, they do. Prices differ too for other items. Have you ever noticed that in the ghetto they have a shitload of fast food joints? More so than in more urbanized areas.

Have you also ever noticed that fast food joints' advertising are aimed at certain "ethnic" markets.

McDonald's "I'm luvin it"

Popeye's "LUUUUv that chicken at Popeye's"

I'm not racist but I can keep going

My Honda owns all.
Tad, I'll be at soon yo.
Alex: you are a good luck charm. I seem to be getting along well with the girl, AND another one has "entered' the girl who went to two Anthrax shows with my friends and I, well, she wants to go see Slayer with me Tuesday, her parents have decided I'd be an awesome son-in-law, so they keep taking me out and getting me drunk telling me about how great her daughter is and how great I am. I think she likes my buddy though, but for whatever reason, he doesn't like her. He is one of those guys who will die a lonely old man because he is soooooo particular, which is stupid because this girl is a cutie! And to boot, this chick from the gym wants to meet for "dinner" later tonight. Her face is in the low B range, but she has a rocking athletic body.................this could be a good week, 3 is a charm.
