When you all edit (harsh) vocals...?

Maybe it's the records I'm referencing and the fact that it's a full mix so the breaths before lines don't seem too noticeable.

So, do the majority of you all just leave the breaths in there or cut them out?

I just took it out if it seemed too loud.
Another question: For people who use Adam's "Elastic Audio" workaround in Reaper do you all leave the rate how it is when you change it or do you select all the media and change it to a rate of 1? Also, when doing Adam's way I'm hearing a very faint ticking sound where the cuts are in few spots. Is this bad or normal?

Sorry for sounding like a totally newb but this is my first time seriously editing vocals!

I generally can't stand it when there are no breaths in vocal tracks. To me, the breaths convey much of the emotion in aggressive music, and to me vocals sound unnatural without them.. If they're obnoxiously loud or distracting, I'd automate them down, but I wouldn't cut them out completely.
