where is everybody staying?

I can't wait for this Fest to start! Last years was great! Morgana Lefey and Tad Morose kicked ass! Imagika, Archetype, Ion Vein, and 12th gate were great.

The singer that was the replacement for Archetype reminded me of Ripper Owens mixed with King Diamond vocals. I hope their new singer and album is good. The Dawning is a great album.

I was also happy to see Ion Vein play in Allentown PA at the Crocadile rock for the Metalfest in May with Jag Panzer and Pain Museum. They also were great opening for Seven Witches. (Hopfully the DVD will see the light of day for those who paid for an advanced copy through Vyagra Music)

Man, I was so tired I could barely stand up. I had two beers on Saturday, too. I'm getting weak in my old age, apparently.

I was so friggen hung, drunk and burnt for lack of sleep from the two previous days that I was right with you. I still stayed up but I kept it to dull roar!! This year, I must pace myself!!! Yes thats the ticket!!!

Tony is excellent. He's the former AWESOME singer of a mediocre Cleveland band called Mo' Rage, as well as Helloween's webmaster.

Legend has it that once at a ProgPower years ago a sign was held up. And upon it were written the words "Best", "Western" and "Party" arranged in such a fashion as to suggest that the "Best Party" was at the "Best Western" with a room number, an arcane number that is now sacred in the annals of time. (hehe, I said annals)

BUT YEH, it was poorly constructed and so did it appear that the sign said one might proceed to the room for the "Best Western Party" and luckily no one showed up in a cowboy hat.

This has been a "Moment in Metal Festival History" brought to you by the Society for Completely Useless Posts.

Ok, here's some info I found out for people that are interested.

Of the 5 hotels/motels listed, (according to google Earth), 4 of them (best western, hilton gardens, motel6 and econolodge) are 1-2-3-4 next door neighbors. The Super8 is right across the interstate, which is apparently the boundary between hazel crest and south holland.

-Best Western is 85$/night (80$ with powerfest or AAA discount) for single King size bed or two double beds.

-Hilton Gardens is 80-89$/night for single king size or two double beds (regardless of AAA discount) I think the price difference is for fridge/microwave, or 135$/nite for the "Romance Package" :D
(larger suites were available, I didn't bother checking further)

-Motel6 is 40$/night (regardless of AAA discount) for a single bed (not sure size)

-Econolodge is 50$/night (45$ with AAA) for a single bed, or 59$/night (54$ with AAA) for two double beds. (there may have been other priced packages depending on things like microwave or smoking, can't remember those numbers)

-Super8 I didn't bother checking since it was across the street :)

--All hotels are roughly quarter mile apart at most, and Hilton Gardens is listed as 5.3 miles to the venue. (so like 5-5.5 miles variance)

Hopefully this helps somebody!

Hey guys,

I live less than 2 minutes from the Music Box where this years Powerfest is being held.

I was at last years show, maybe some of you remember me as the dude who sang ML's Rumours of Rain karaoke the night before the show.

Anyway, I am very familiar with the area around where the show is going to be, and to answer some questions:

1. No, there is no lodging within walking distance of the venue.
2. It looks like most of you are looking to stay at the hotels near Interstate 80 and IL 1 (Halsted St). There are more hotels, namely a Holiday Inn and a Country Suites in Matteson, IL which is about the same distance away. It is right off Interstate 57, and Route 30. Personally, I feel that is a better area than the South Holland area. Its not a total dump, but it borders Harvey, IL which has some real bad areas, and its right near a 24 Hour Super KMart which attracts all kinds of lowlifes. FOr those of you interested in staying in a little nicer area, I would recommend the Matteson area over the Hazel Crest, South Holland area. Just my .02.
3. Umm, okay, it doesnt look like there is a third question, but if anyone else needs anything answered, let me know!

MIKE!

I remember you from the old Savatage Mailing List! You're one of the people (along with Stephanie and some others) responsible for bringing Morgana Lefay to my ears in the first place.

Well I got $69.00 a night for a King at Great Western :loco:

It was all online price quotes. :p
After all was said and done, I got one at econolodge for 40$/night, much to my surprise. So I'm guessing they just chock up the prices online 5-10$ for those too ignorant to call?
But it's at least a start for everyone :)

Wow. I was definitely on the Savatage mailing list circa 96-97... What was your name on there? I still save most of my old emails, I might even have something saved from back then from you! :)

My how the world can be a small place! :)

I was boB. my... how I haven't changed much. LOL

This show is looking like a mini-Savatage Mailing List reunion show... Matt Crooks and Mike Blevins were on it, as well as Stephanie (TwstDrSteph)... my friend Sam (used to post as "Diane Cote") was on it and wants to come, and my friend Scott ("The Undead") may be making it as well... if I still had my other friend Cindy's email address, she might be persuaded to make it (she's local)... and there was a dude named Brent who was also local, although I think he may have moved since the SML days...

Speaking of the Sava list, has anyone heard from/talked to Tommy?

Actually, the Powerfest rate shoulda been $59 for double beds & $69 for a king...before taxes of course.

If anyone was quoted or is paying more than that, let us know!

Also, this rate was ONLY offered if you made reservations Feb 1st or after & you mentioned "Chicago Powerfest". Although, if you call them back, I'm sure they'll give you the correct discounted rate if you tell them the deal.

Eh...that may be true...but I don't think there's anything to worry about when there'll be a horde of metal fans everywhere.

And to anyone who is legitimately concerned...I got your back!! ;)
