You know, he never actually said that he invented those noises, so I don't really think he was taking credit for them. All he was doing was showing people how to do them. It's unfortunate that due to DF's popularity a lot of people will think that he's like the best guitarist ever for this, but I don't think he can be blamed for some people not knowing that Steve Vai did these way before him.
