obviously at these specs we are sacrificing battery life and portability, so that aside. for me it comes down to screen resolution, anything else than 1680x1050 is a instant write off. but fuck the 1270, who the hell wants to watch bluray with 1440 x 900 screen rez.
the 2040 is good enough for gaming, it has the gfx memory and screen rez to support it well. so if i was gaming and do other things then this is my pick.
and vista 64 bit,

uke:
but when i buy laptops i always tell people to get the longest warranty possible, because if you dont kill it within the first year then by the 2nd year the hdd, screen, mobo, will die and if you make it to the 3rd yr and it dies and is still under warranty then most likely parts are no longer available, i have only bought 1 laptop in the last 6 years, i ride warranties like a sub drop BOOM in your fav coretastic hit.
but seriously budget your laptop with at least a 3yr warranty, 5yr if possible. so if you want to spend $1k for a laptop budget $200-300 on top of that for warranty, if you cant afford that then save yup.
if you want the a good warranty on the cheap, then look at Asus offerings, most come with 1yr accidental damage warranty, but they fall short on their specs compared to others in the price range but who cares i can fuck my esata port and break it at my fault and its covered.
