which virus scan programs/firewalls/and other securuity progs do YOU use?

I am my own firewall... In other words I have all ports, all connections, on monitor... Etc... But I do have a connections program that alerts me when something is trying to connect to the internet.

I do a regular scan with Adaware Professional, McAfee Virus Scan Professional, and Symantec Coporate Edition.

i use linux, thus none of the above is needed. I just update all the packages installed, the kernel, and i use my router's firewall hardware.
On windows
windows firewall, is fine, mcafee, spybot sd, ms antispyware

congrats for saying something stupid!
a firewall protects you against unknown attackers, that port scan an ip range. It has nothing to do with the fact, that you watch porn with internet explorer. Viruses can be caught without opening shitty emails, without you doing anything, just booting in windows and having broadband. Adware software you get from ultimate metal too, and from other websites. These programs protect you against a pizza face asian dude, that has nothing better to do at night but install a keylogger in your computer, and find you credit card number, your email password, and your girlfriend phone number.

All of those things could happen, to a limited extent; however, they are unlikely to. I check my system once every 6 months and in 2 years I haven't found a single piece of spyware, adware, virus, worm, etc.

The point of a Firewall is not only to deny access to worms you may obtain but also to keep ports closed. An open port is a vulnerability; an open door for anyone who wants to compromise your system/network.

nothing seems to get past my router.

but for the stuff that does, the crazy russian program Kaspersky kills ANYTHING.

so,

Kaspersky
Hijackthis
and spywareblaster for blocking and antispyware for removing.

If someone really wanted onto my network, would a firewall stop them? I don't lock my house either. I figure if someone really wants my bigass TV and has a crew of burly men to carry it, they earned it.

Spend enough time in S.F. and you'll learn not to lock your car because it just encourages thieves to break your window.

My father isnt brilliant when it come to computers, whats worse is hes a Norton Antivirus fanboy, even though he has no idea what it does. Not only does it waste all of the computers resources and make it run really slow, but it doesnt even know how to do its job well and it usually goes something like this:

"we found a Virus!"
"can you delete it?"
"uhhhhh...... we found a virus!"
"yes i know that, can you delete it??"
"uhhhhh...... we uhh..... found it for you.."
"CAN YOU DELETE IT???"
"uhhhhh...... we can put it in quarantine!"
"no i just want you to delete it"
"okay okay ill try......
........no"
"no what?"
"no boss"
"what?"
"i cant delete it"
"i hate you"

and then i have to install another program just to delete that virus and then uninstall it so my dad doesnt get angry at me for "cheating" on Norton.

I lock my house.

A great thing about some firewalls are logs. Logs can help you in more than one way whether it's a lawsuit or revenge.

Why I'm still awake, I don't know.

I'm in the same boat. I've never been infected... except by my own viruses... but that was when I used to dabble in that kind of thing... 3 or 4 years ago.

NOD32 AV
Ad-Aware and Spybot
And a firewall won't save your ass if someone hates you enough to get you. I just use the windows one and WATCH WHAT I'M DOING.

i use none, no Anti virus, no anti spyware, no firewall, no net security, i keep my windows firewall off, im DMZed in my router AND I use fucking Microsoft Internet Explorer and I never get/got ANYTHING and my computer runs as fast as it did the day i installed windows.

dont beleive me? fuck you. i am my own antivirus
