Which way to add shimmer to OHs

For what its worth I was messing around with some drums last night and decided to give the Antress Exciter a go. It rocks, and does exactly what you want, just adds smooth shimmer without any of the harshness you'd get with boosting on an EQ.

Not trying to be an ass here as I haven't heard a single clip, but after you have everything there in the mix; the vocals, the bass, the guitars, the usual stuff; does it really need the extra shimmering for the cymbals except for the ride and hihat? Because I have often noticed that they might not. Alone the drums might usually sound a bit dull, but with everything, maybe not, it can get a bit exhausting after a while if there is a lot of shimmering, especially on high volumes

Yes it needs it, trust me - i wouldn't mess with it should the OHs be recorded perfectly... but they were not, so I'm just bringing things to normality, not "adding" something you usually do not have on record..

Thank you, I'll give it a try - for now I'm very happy with the Stillwell 1973 EQ, it works wonders and it's very transparent.

Are you going to master? Maybe there you can bring a little shimmer if your problem is this cymbals. If the issue is only with hi-hats and ride, maybe you should try a different approach. Instead of boosting highs, cut the rest a little. I did that on kick and OHs with a Sonnox EQ and sounded just great. Much more natural.
