they sound retro but their sound is much more processed then aphex twin....

they reflect the modern trend in MTV to promote bands totally without talent!

However, I think you have not heard any Porcupine Tree. SIgnify is along the lines of Radioheads Kid A- i think a year before Kid A as well. Lightbulb Sun, is a wonderful pop- prog album, full of a variety of influences. In absentia has a number of metal moments, but it is still a prog rock cd. If you listen to any Porcupine tree, you will come to the conclusion they are not a metal band. I hae genres, and classifications as well, but these guys are really really not a metal band.

As I mentioned before, it's pointless to argue this. Yes, I have heard Porcupine Tree. They are currently one of my favorite bands, and I would argue that although they're not a particularly heavy band, they do in fact have a number of metal-influences that shine through, especially in "In Absentia." Listen to the opening track and tell me those intro riffs don't sound metal-oriented. Also I've seen them listed in a variety of prog-metal websites, so I know I'm not the only one on the planet who agrees with this. In my humble opinion, they are just a very ambient, prog-METAL band. Oh, and I don't know about you, but this argument is boring the hell out of me, so don't feel obligated to reply.
