i know this sounds really wimp like but i dont drink any sorts of alcohol

Zinfandel has as much alcohol as any other wine. usually it's between 13-15%. I actually like zinfandel from time to time, it's the sweetest I could drink. But it has to be cold though, so it's a little less sweet.
I'm mostly into red wines though. Merlots are my favorite. Even dry white wines are a bit sweet for me.

I'm very hesitant to drink Pinot Noir, although it is a very good wine, but mainly because everyone who saw Sideways was shitting on Merlot just because they shat on it in the movie...and it was in jest, anyway. Every time I see someone buying some here, especially if they're American, I think to myself, "Yup, he's seen Sideways." I find nothing at all wrong with Merlot.
Sometimes I feel that I seem like such an elitist prick when speaking about these things that I even look down on the elitist pricks...so does that make me normal? I don't mean to be an ass about it and I'm not trying to come across that way. It's just how I feel...
But Pinot Grigio...mmmmmmmmmmmmm
Although I love many different wines, especially Tocai, I can't say that I really know that much about them. Living here doesn't automatically make you a connoisseur. Vino Rosso is Vino Rosso. Tocai is Tocai. Vino Biancho is Vino Biancho. We don't really pay that much attention to it unless it's a quite popular wine, and we don't jerk each other off over dinner and name-drop to try and impress people with our "extensive" tastes in assorted wines. We drink wine because it goes good with food, it tastes good, and it's a tradition in celebration, even for the smallest things.
I am in no way implying that anyone here tries to make up for their penis size with knowledge in different wines...I'm just speaking about what I've noticed in general. Do any of you agree/disagree?

Well, I love wine, and I know quit a lot about it... I grew up in a family where wine was a part of any dinner or lunch and bottles are opened one after another at any family gathering. My mother collects wine for years and she has a huge cellar at our house back home. In fact, my entire family has a wine cellar at their houses.. I mean: the real kind...
I love wine, and learned how to drink it, and how to enjoy it from a very young age. (remember: at most countries, it is legal to drink when you're 16-15. I had my first glass of wine probably when I was 12.... - I know for a fact- Italy is the same)
My family goes to paris and Italy twice a year EVERY year just to enjoy good wine and good food.. haha.
About Sideways: Its a parody about napa/sonoma valley. Most wineries over there tend to hold their Pinot Noir grapes on a devine pulpit due to the fact that they won couple of competitions in the world.
Merlot is being laughed at in that movie because merlot is considered as "easy wine" for everybody to like, The rest are more reserved for the equire taste....
I think everyone can appreciate wine, just like everyone can appreciate art.
Just because one knows more about the Merlot or Chianti you're drinking, doesn't mean you'd like it less.
merlot is fantastic.
Wine is my favorite alcoholic beverage. I love it, and I don't abuse it.

Welp, next time you should swing on by and we can drink some really good, cheap Italian wine. If you're ever close to Venezia, I think we could make the hour train ride there for 5 bucks and hang out for a bit. It'd at least be a good way to spend a day in Venezia!

More to the point, Beer is better.

Actually, you're spot on. I forget how expensive our wines are in the states. Here, a good bottle of Pinot or Cabernet will run you anywhere between 5-10 euros...and that's really good wine.
