americans opinion on Al Gore

I'm super serial!

I've always wondered how they make those mosaics... is there a computer program that can build them, or is it really done entirely by hand?
Fuuuuuuuuck dude, I love Photoshop and everything, but that is an endeavor I would NEVER want to take on. It's got to be computer generated.

He's a Republican. That's just about the extent of an explanation you'll get from them.

I am? Hm.. I guess that makes you an argumentative, some what conceited appearing twat.

I cared not to elaborate as I was out the door on a beautiful day to work on enlarging my carbon foot print on the river.

A little looking into Mr. Al's utility expenditures for his residence, the Jet A burned in jets whilst tooling around proclaiming his environmental ideals. While were supposed to be tooling around granola powered tricycles to save the planet. Any point here is moot however.

People are surprised when I say I don't like Al Gore all too much (note: mainly for his environmental-effort hypocrisy, lies, and carbon credit scam. Not his political views necessarily). Do I wish he was elected over Bush? Absolutely.

He's an obnoxious asshat who has contributed greatly to the political name-calling that is making real environmental science harder to do, failed to support very good alternatives (butbutbut feel-good bullshit is so much easier!), and only popped into the discussion to further his political views. Fuck him, and while we're at it fuck everyone who has said a word about climate change for any reason other than the advancement of knowledge and with any qualifications other than experience in the field.

JBroll has a point though. The world has reached a level of complexity such that everyone has to specialize in some field at the expense of others. There are so many complex systems at work in our daily lives and so much to know about them that at best you can know just a couple generic facts about most things and have to rely on the opinions of specialists in those areas to guide you when it comes time to vote about some issue.

Yeah, I hear you there, but I'm pretty sure Al Gore knows what he's talking about, and even then, it's not because you aren't specialized in a certain field that you shouldn't have an opinion. It's like so many of the "artists" on deviantart who reply to critique with "I DON'T SEE YOU DOING ANY BETTER!". In a sense, that's true, but it's also completely beside the point. I agree with JBroll that not every John and Barry should clamber onto a podium and start ranting about things they aren't the authority in, but Al Gore isn't every John and Barry, and you can be sure that he's had quite a few experts in the field advising him and supporting his theories.

If someone not in the field stated an opinion about pedagogy to me, I wouldn't tell him to "FUCK OFF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!", no I'd consider his opinion, however uninformed it may be, and accept the valid points and rebuke the invalid ones.

Plus, the post in question was written in such a manner that it amounted to nothing but sheer blowhardery (is that a word? It is now!)

Global warming is a special case because unqualified people with uninformed opinions are fucking things up and political cuntstuffery is getting in the way of science.

Al Gore made plenty of clunkers in his film, and even if he does understand part of the problem his 'solutions' haven't been particularly good. It seems like you may be overlooking the phrase

...fuck everyone who has said a word about climate change for any reason other than the advancement of knowledge...

as the troubling issue is that people are harming science for their political agendas. Al Gore is one of the worst offenders there. (Don't get me wrong, fuck the think tanks that would deny magnetism if their benefactors could sell a few more products, too...)

How is it 'blowhardery' to say that someone without qualification for his opinion looks like an asshat for promoting it? He wouldn't get away with giving talks on the link between quantum physics and consciousness, or recently discovered fossils and the new light they shed on our understanding of evolution, or modularity of semistable elliptic curves. Precisely why the fuck is he getting away with doing the same with climatology? Have an opinion, fine, whatever - but when your opinion and its promotion get in the way of science, people who happen to like science more than demagoguery will rightly tell you to go fuck an electrical outlet.

I misrepresented you to be fair, Jeff.

I agree with you, full on.

I recently read a rather cool book called "Bad Science" by Ben Goldacre. I'd put money on you liking it.

It's on my list, thanks. One of my favorite quotes of all time is Pauli's classic "That's not right... that's not even wrong." It seems to fit far too much 'science' reporting...

But generally there is no solution since changing anything would mean massive economical drawbacks for a majority of the worlds industries. People making money and through that also have obtained power will make sure it won't be happening anytime soon.
