Well friday at the NEC was pretty good.

The venue was curtained off half way down due to poor ticket sales, but there still must have been 3000 in there.
Y & T were the first band on and I must admit were fantastic. They played loads of old stuff like Meanstreak, Rescue Me, Summertime Girls etc and Dave Menketti's voice was superb and boy can he play guitar. I would love to see them headlining in a club, they'd be even better then.

Next up was Gary Moore or should that be Gary Bore. zzzzzz Very dissapointing. The best stuff he played was from his Scars album, which came across very well as it was recorded as a three piece and he was playing with that line up. But then he played a few of his blues numbers which sent me to sleep, but then slighty redemed himself with Out in the Fields and Don't believe a Word. The problem was with a three piece band it just sounded like something was missing. He needed a rythmn guitarist and a backing singer to fill out the sound a bit. I then went to the bar.

Then it was time for Old Cov. Brilliant. They were excellent and played just a bit of a greatest hits set really. Gimme all your Love, Bad Boys, Walking in the Shadow of the Blues, Still of the Night, Is this Love, Slow and Easy, Slide it In, Ain't no love in the Heart of the City etc.
His voice was excellent and the band were superb. Doug Aldridge is a brilliant guitarist and it was good to see him playing a bit of slide, making it a bit more like the old Whitesnake.
One critisisim though would be, why do we still have to have guitar and drum solos! zzzzzzzzz boring.
All in all though it was a good gig.

The other critisism would be the crowd. At 30 I think I was the youngest there and probably the noisiest. Fuckin' hell just because your old it doesn't mean you can't sing, clap and jump around a bit!

Sounds good Lagoon. I'd love to see Y&T headlining a club too, think that would be superb.

Totally agree about the guitar/drum solo's. I have long campaigned for an end to these very boring bits to a show. There is absolutely no need for them and I can't believe there is any more then just a handful of people who actually enjoy them!

And yeah totally agree, just because your 'old' it doesn't mean you can't make some noise and have a jump about. I'm 35 and you'll still find me in the moshpit having a good ole bounce!

Bloody hell Lagoon, I've agreed with everything you have said, whats going on?!!

Thanks Black lagoon...

How long was the Whitesnake set all in all (including encores)??

Do they have an intro?? How does their set start??

Best,

Karsten

I disagree about guitar/drum solos. It all depends who's playing them. Doug Aldrich - No. He bored me silly at Dio gig. Steve Morse or Rory Gallagher (R.I.P.) - YES. I could have listened to Rory all day. Same with drummers. A Neil Peart or Tommy Aldridge solo is a joy to behold A Peter Criss solo and others of his ilk are laughable. You can't generalise like that! I want to see good musicians PLAYING their instruments. If that means a 5 minute guitar solo then so be it. Here endeth the lesson!

Y&T are a great band!!!

They started without a proper intro, the lights just went down, you heard a few bits of guitaring and feed back, and then Old Cov bellowed "Here's a song for Ya" before they went striaght into Bad Boys.

All in all they played for about an hour and a half, with the only encoure being Still of the Night.

Pax definitely does feel it the next day! But hey, it's all for the cause of rock 'n' roll!

Just a slight calf strain after Limehouse Lizzy. I won't be taken a week off work due to a moshing injury like I did once after seeing Saxon at the LA2!

Again, it's all a matter of taste. I loved Doug's solo at the Dio gig here in Chicago. He's one of my favorite players now.

But I do agree that Peter Criss has no business playing a drum solo. He was better than average in 1975, but his playing has eroded dramatically since then. He sounds like they have to trigger his toms & kick live!

Another odd thing is that Whitesnake (although it was a double headline gig here in the states with the Scorps) nearly sold out the local arena... about 12,000 capacity.

Just chiming in!
