You have the original American. I had the original Euro, all blue and it said "Made in France" on the side.

I own the re-release as well. One day I went to a small record shop and I was searching through the used metal section. Came across Orchid and didn't think much about it but instictively picked it up being that it was an Opeth album. I looked on the back and in my amazement it was the original without the bonus tracks. And it was only $4.99. I instantly purchased it. So now I have both the re-release and the original US pressing.

From the November 05 issue of Metal Maniacs:

Peter Lindgren on the mysterious blue disc:
"We wanted the orchid on the CD, but the CD plant told Lee Barrett it wouldn't fit, so he had to come up with something else. So, he chose blue. When we recieved the CD, we were like, "it's fucking blue!"

^ They had an older logo back then it was the one Mike drew. Just opeth with a long p and h that swirled. It is on the back of the euro original booklet.

Holy Åkerfeldt, Man. What do you have... a "Who happens to own or knows about obscure Opeth paraphernalia?" alarm or something?

Creepy....... but we like still like you.

I'm sure he actually asked for blue, but wanted a much darker blue than was printed. Still, it was ages ago now and I don't even remember what I did last week let alone 11 fecking years ago...

I do remember my thoughts when the album cover arrived though:

"a big gay flower??!!??"

:)

Wait a minute... the original means the first ever pressing? If so, how come it has Opeth's current logo? Didin't it debut on Still Life? WTF?
