Who knows ENGLs? Is the E530 like a fireball/powerball?

Hey guys,

I'm interested in the ENGL sound but not interested enough to spend the dosh required to buy a head. Also, I have plenty of tube power amps available... So my question is can the E530 sound like a powerball? Or, more specifically, could it sound like THIS:

Thanks,
Harris

I have had a Powerball and have an E530. They sound nothing alike besides having that sort of ENGL character.

The e530 is lower gain and more crispy with more upper midrange and less mean sounding.

I also have an ENGL Savage 120 and I had an ENGL Screamer. I would say the E530 falls somewhere between those. Definitely more on the Savage side though.

Compared to the vid, it is more up to the driver I think than the head. I hear some ENGL-ness in there for sure. Sounds like an E530 or a Savage. The Powerball was really hard to get good tones out when mic'd. But I loved it live. The Fireball I hear is similar.

I own an e530 and I can say it's quite possible to get close to that tone in Hope. Actually I can try to reproduce it as soon as I restring my guitar in a few days.

I played Fireball a few times and never liked it. Never touchted to a Powerball though.

That's the thing, I didn't like the powerball I played, but supposedly that tone (Hope) is a rockerverb and a powerball. But it's good to hear that the e530 can get close :) that's what I was hoping.

Djunn, PLEASE let me know the results of your experiment, I'd be very interested. You can reply in this thread or PM
