I'm helping my friend in finding an above average size drumset, not piece-wise but shell size. Like 15x8 or 10 for a snare, etc. Anybody know who makes shells like that? Trying find a 3 or 4 piece shell pack as he has hardware already from his current set.

The trend seems to be otherwise at the moment, i.e. small shallow 'fast' toms etc.
Snare wise.. if I wanted a 15x anything I wouldn't even bother trying to find a shell pack with that.

I'd say the best bet would be to find which co. does the best deals in configuring your own setup. They pretty much all can make whatever sizes I think.
Or look for 2nd hand obviously.

He wants big shells because he wants them. The reason is not important and has no bearing on the fact that I am asking who makes big drums, thanks.

Ahj, that snare is perfect, and fucking hugggge. I was already aware of Keller which makes shells for tons of companies, but they actually do not make a big enough kick drum unless it is custom ordered and it's pretty expensive unless you get something from their regular line of maple shells. I'm talking like 24x48, he is also interested in maybe an 18x48, just really oversized drums.

I was just asking out of curiosity. I'm interested in the mindset behind buying such large shells, and what kind of sound he's looking to get out of them (or if the sound is even a concern). As someone who's worked on hundreds of drum sessions (including recordings of marching snares, 26 inch kicks, 20" toms, etc), I might have been able to offer advice to help you/your friend find what you're looking for (if the large shells were a sonic consideration, as opposed to an aesthetic "look how hilariously big my kit is" thing).

Cory, I apologize if my comment was basically dick. It's definitely not just an aesthetic thing. He genuinely wants the huge drums for their sound. He is doing a project with another friend of ours where it is just drums and bass and the drumset he has now is just run-of-the-mill sizes. There is a band called Dark Castle we saw a long time ago the drummer has enormous kit pieces, it sounded really cool, that's basically where the idea came from.

There's a brazilian company that will build whatever you ask them to, and they're awesome quality. The snares are awesome. But i guess shipping costs would also be absurd. Anyway, you might check them out just for sake of looking at beautifully crafter instruments : www.odery.com.br
