I'm all juiced up of late 'cause I just got a Les Paul. I've wanted one for the longest time, and though pricey, it was damned well worth it. It plays like a dream (and weighs a ton), just like I expected.

So, let's get a gear rundown here. Also, does anybody have (or have experience with) the following amps? I'm upgrading in that area too, soon, and have been shopping for sometime now. I've narrowed it down to the following....

Mesa/boogie Rectoverb 50 combo....
...and am suddenly interested in Orange amplification. Anybody got one?

Was thinking Marshall for months, but the Rectoverb is sounding sweet in the store, and the Orange, well, let's hear what you got to say....

I'm going all tube this time, that's for sure....but will listen to suggestions for sure! The best sales pitch, I find, is a satisfied owner.

i'm a singer,and used to play bass.

i use a sennhieser g2 935 wireless mic,and it rules all-i've used shure beta 58a's for ages, but this tops em easily.

as for guitar amps-one of my guitarists uses a peavey 5150 mk2,the other a line 6 vetta.

the vetta rules all-not heard an amp that versatile before-seriously worth checking out!

I took guitar lessons for two years and "played" for about 4 years overall. I was never very good and called it a day in my mid-20s.

It did, however, give me a new found appreciation for artists as well as a much keener "ear for music". For that I'm grateful.

I have a Les Paul and a Paul Reed Smith. For amps I have A Marshall JMC800 and an Old Fender Twin Reverb.

Electricwiz- A Friend of mine has a couple of Orange cabs. He played a Mesa-Boogie triple rec through them, They sound decent. However, He plays a seven-string Ibanez and that is dropped tuned and never plays solos so I never really got hear how verisatile they are. but from what I heard they sound pretty good

Been a while since I answered one of these threads. Just a warning though... I have G.A.S. (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) bad. :loco:

Basses:

2005 Moser Custom Shop Arachnid Ultra
1985 handmade USA B.C. Rich Warlock
1985 handmade USA B.C. Rich Warlock (#2)
2001 Gibson Blackbird
1976 Rickenbacker 4001

Guitars:

1983 handmade USA B.C. Rich Warlock
1990 Gibson Flying V
1992 Gibson Explorer
1986 Ibanez DT-250 (first guitar I owned)

Amps:

1973 Marshall Super Bass head
1974 Marshall Super Bass head
1977 Marshall model 1986 head (50W version of the Super Bass)
3 Marshall 1960 4x12 cabs (various years)
Marshall 1551 2x15 cab (mid-80s)
1985 Marshall 5010 30W solid state combo (first amp I owned)

Plus various rack gear, wireless systems and effects pedals.

Every piece of gear I own I have played live with, except the Arachnid... she'll get her live cherry broken in March!

Cheers!

Bass:
Fender Squier P-bass with a 50W Laney amp
No effects or shit apart from some of my blood on the scratchboard :) he is called Sephiroth

Guitar:
Fender Squier Stratocaster with a 15W Fender amp
Again, no effects apart from bloodstains (much smaller on this one). Thank god I don't play drums. Gain and Bass on 10, everything else on 0. Love it :) not christened yet though...

I have a Peavey Wolfgang (which I was as jazzed to get as you were your Les Paul!) and a Martin D-28 acoustic. I don't play in a band so my amp is a Peavey Bandit 112...has more than enough power for me but the tones can go anywhere from crystal clear to "dimebag" with no effects needed! I have played since I was 12 and am now 31 years old...my dad taught me the basics and I took it from there....

cool thread!

Yeah, info on Oranges, generally speaking, is kinda hard to come by. I mean, in so far as finding an owner goes. Thanks for the cabinet thoughts though. As to your guitars, Paul Reed Smith and Les Pauls are about as good as it gets. Do you have a Standard (les paul)? If so, no doubt you've got 5,000 or so tied up in those two guitars alone. Also, good on ya on the JCM800. They are frustrating to shop for via ebay as the prices go so damned high. I'm persistant though, and know I'll find a good condition one for what I'm willing to pay eventually. Just bid on a rectoverb that closes tomorrow. Fingers crossed. Will save about 4 or 500 bucks if this goes down right!!!!

The Les Paul is a '78 Standard with PAF pick-ups(wine color). THat was a H.S. graduation gift from my Aunt. She bought it new but hardly played it so she gave it to me. Sweet guitar.

The PRS I bought in 93 or 94 I don't remember, I'll have to check the serial number. That is a real gem. Custom 24 with HFS pick-ups. Such a wide range of tones. The only problem is that after playing the Les for years I pick up the PRS and its like I'm playing air guitar. It's so damn light.

The Marshall is really cool. I had a guy "Hot Rod" it. But it still has a very 80's sound to it. I'm not into effects that much. I perfer to play straight through the amp with little effects. So I'm looking to get something new. Update my sound. Looking into the Boogies but since I don't play much anymore I'm not rushing into it. I don't have that kind of money to throw around
Good luck on that rectoverb!

I play guitar and bass.

My axes are:

1990 Peavey Vandenberg
late 80s cheap Korean Ibanez EX (which I wouldn't take a small fortune for)
1987 Takamine EF350 MC acoustic electric (full body)
1994 Peavey Foundation five string bass
Some violin stuck in the closet I can make do little more than SQUEEK !

My effects:

An ART ECC (back-up)
Cry-Baby wah (that I never use)
Digitech GNX-4 guitar workstation
Rat - distortion (that I never use)

amps

Crown DC 300 power amp (bass)
Horizon 18" bass cabinet (just temporoary)
When I was playing live, I actually tri-amped...
Crate G60 SS half-stack (Metallicaish style rythms)
Crate "Classic" 2X12 tube amp (solos and crunchy rythms)
PA board input from effects (clean)

Ouch, almost poked my eye on the picture! :tickled:
Does it hurt to play a guitar of such shape? ;)

Anyway, I own:
Yamaha Pacifica 604W
Marshall ShredMaster
Vox V847 wah
Marshall Mk.2 Master Volume Lead 100W
(it's covered in orange tolex and has a matching cab)

I've been always wanting to get myself a cherry sunburst LP, but since it's so overpriced, I think I'll pass until I become stinking rich... :)
I'd really like to lay my hands on Schecter C1 Classic, but especially flame maple top Jackson USA Select... Yummy!
There's so much equipment I'd like to try out, but in Croatia it's almost only Marshall, Ibanez and Yamaha whose range is decently covered. ENGL amps have sparked my interest a long time ago, but who knows when will I have the chance to plug in and hear for myself. Same goes for the famed 5150... :erk:

Enough with my ranting for now.

Bass:

Samick Artist Series Acoustic 4 string bass (I use it for noodling)
1982 Aria Pro Cardinal Series 4 string (Never play it anymore, but I'll always keep it)
Ibanez BTBQ406 6 String (Black) - rhythm bass
Ibanez SR3006 6 String (Mahogany natural) - soloing bass

Crate B150 Combo Amp (This thing has been around since 1986 and it still works well)
BOSS GT-6B effects processor

Guitar:

Fender Stratacoustic (Piece of crap but it works for noodling and writing)
Schecter Blackjack 7 String (Black)
Jackson SLSMG Soloist 6 string (Flat Black)

Ibanez Toneblaster amp (100w)
BOSS GT-6 Effects Processor

That's about all my stuff - I sold a hell of a lot of stuff over the past few years - my gigging bass rig for one. I just didn't have room for it anymore and I wasn't using it so I sold it to some high school kid who was in a death metal band and needed a good rig.

WHAT?!? Honestly, how do expect to make it huge in a fantasy metal band without being able to play a violin... sheesh.

She's extremely comfortable to play. I don't get poked anywhere, even sitting down. And she has the BEST neck I've ever played!

Cheers!

Sure got the cheapest gear here!!
Palmer STC-33 guitar (new from ebay at 70$ !!!)
Boss heavy metal pedal (second hand on ebay at 30$)
amplified through my computer or sound system ....
I could play 3 or 4 SOD riffs and Smoke on the Water 3 or 4 months ago,
not sure if I still can now...(but hell it was fun !!!)

When I was young I allways stared at a Flying V at a local music shop.
Even concidered selling my whole record collection once to finance it...
I don't remember the brand of the guitar, but it was some kind of burnt
purple (going from light on the sides to dark in the centre) color Flying V...If anyone ever sees one for sale, I wanna buy it !!! Never could get the money to buy that one back in the 80's ...
