Who plays guitar here? Roll call/gear call

The Les Paul is a '78 Standard with PAF pick-ups(wine color). THat was a H.S. graduation gift from my Aunt. She bought it new but hardly played it so she gave it to me. Sweet guitar.

The PRS I bought in 93 or 94 I don't remember, I'll have to check the serial number. That is a real gem. Custom 24 with HFS pick-ups. Such a wide range of tones. The only problem is that after playing the Les for years I pick up the PRS and its like I'm playing air guitar. It's so damn light.

The Marshall is really cool. I had a guy "Hot Rod" it. But it still has a very 80's sound to it. I'm not into effects that much. I perfer to play straight through the amp with little effects. So I'm looking to get something new. Update my sound. Looking into the Boogies but since I don't play much anymore I'm not rushing into it. I don't have that kind of money to throw around
Good luck on that rectoverb!

Well, I lost the rectoverb at the last second, but lo and behold, a $1600 Orange AD30R went up on ebay last night with a $865 "buy it now" price. The guy had tons of good feedback and listed it as mint, so I went for it. Should show up in a couple of days. Can't wait.

 You have to let me know how they sound. Are you still going to look for a boogie or a Marshall?

WHAT?!? Honestly, how do expect to make it huge in a fantasy metal band without being able to play a violin... sheesh.

Hmmm.... it's actually my wife's but if I ever get the damned thing out, it will be permantly imprinted in my sheetrock walls. I am far from some musical genius, but I can make just about ANY instrument at least make a pleasant tone. That fucking violin sounds like a cat dying no matter what I do to try and make a nice sounding note come out of it. whoever can play one of those things, are quite the talented musician.

I've had the same prollem with violins Bryant...I played a cello once and had no real problems making the notes come out sounding clean and even once I messed with it for a few minutes. For some reason on a violin, it's always the most brutal sounding noise no matter how hard I try. All the more reason why I am so impressed with musicians who can really smoke on a violin or fiddle...

Playing it by ear really. Marshall, probably. Mesa, if the right deal comes. The cool thing about the Orange is that it has a BIG FAT clear tone. It also has a brittish crunch, but that's not really what I'm after. My whole "tone theory" is that if you start with something that is fat, rounded, and full (clean), then you can pedal up however you wanna. If the amp is quality enough, it will just sound like it already does, but with whatever fuzz or emulation you've slapped on top.

It's tough to do that with a Marshall, but that's not a put down. Marshall may be a one trick pony, but it's a cool trick! Tough to compete with the sound of a JCM800. Though the more modern JCM2000s and whatnot are a little more versatile. Better, fatter clean sound.

I'll give you a full report in the next few days.
