Who said Metal is dead?

I've been waiting to see how the recent metal cd's releases fare on the high profile media outlets...billboard, metal choice, mtv etc. I've listened to TGE about 9 times now and still can't peg a top song...guess I'll have to keep listening until I do!

As for Arch Enemy, don't care for them, seen em live, just not my thing. yngwie is okay for me, don't own any prefer Marty Friedman.
JonnyD..or anyone got Dreams of Death yet? got some F&J on vinyl around here somewhere...haven't listened to them in waaaaaaaaaay to long! No stuff on CD. I'm interested in hearing the Iommi stuff but haven't heard any yet.
Montrose I have on cassette and is a :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: classic for sure!

I understand your pointm, I don't care for Nevermore, but the fact that the top selling list is composed of metal acts and clsssic music is for me a statement:

FUCK RAP, FUCK POP, FUCK THE REST! :tickled:

I always felt that classical music and metal go together great!
Just look at all those neoclassical stuff, it sounds so fluent together, there's no other music which could make such use of classical influences. :headbang:

Oh yeah and - GO NEVERMORE! :)

:loco: Chopin Piano Concertos are better than Arch Enemy? :loco:

Of course! :D But Arch Enemy is better than Liszt

  I only counted 4 metal albums out of 40.......I dont think that's exactly saying anything at all. you cant just look at album sales from ONE location, I've never once bought from cd universe, and there isnt one cd universe store in my whole state.

Look at it this way: if this top 40 sales list is dominated by music from guys who lived in the 1600's.....I really dont think it's very reliable at all :erk:

I don't think you got the point. We are not generalizing anything, the fact is that in the top ten of CD Universe you'll only find classical music and rock. No pop, hip-hop, rap, country, jazz, mallcore, trance, disco, etc.

That was my statement.

P.S. If you find a CD Universe store in any state I'll give you a prize, it's only Internet based.

ARCH ENEMY – "Doomsday Machine": 12,000 (#87)
DOPE - "American Apathy": 9,000
NEVERMORE - "This Godless Endeavor": 5,000
A PERFECT MURDER - "Strength through Vengeance": 2,000
FLOTSAM AND JETSAM - "Dreams of Death": 600
WOW! I would think the sales would've been greater by now. I'm curious to know how these places get their totals. Now with the ability to download full albums and such....how do those get counted. and along with that..does the band get $$ from I tunes or what not? like they would from a record store?

from Blabbermouth blabbermouth/roadrunner

i think download sites pay the label based on projected sales. That is, they assume X number of people will download the new Arch Enemy. Kind of the same way a record store would order CDs. If you order 10000 and sell 5000, they go in the discount bin. If you sell over 10000, you order more.

ha! this same stuff was posted over at royal carnage. we were all laughing at how *small* metal sales are. i guess it's all about perception.

well in thinking average show at Gigantour is pulling 2-3K you'd think there would be more fans buying. to me 5K is a low number since their fan base well exceeds that.

if this was meant for me, those numbers were for sake of argument and werent supposed to reflect any particular band's selling power. :loco:

C'mon be a sport don't feel bad, it's all about old age. I may have more experience but also more aches :tickled: ...and less hair :D

I think most people couldn't follow my line of thought. In a nutshell will be:

If you check a site which is NOT devoted to metal, and in the top ten selling list you only find classic music and rock/metal, whay you will infer?
