...me playing some geetar? I made these recordings by using the microphone input, and then recorded to "sound recorder," that generic windows recorder (quality is decent). Then I converted the files to Windows media from WAVs, save some space. My preamp was my ZOOM3030 effect pedal. The guitar is an Ibanez RG1570L. I recorded all of these in like 30 minutes so lots of them are first takes. Also some days one can play better than others. But if you like guitar at all you will enjoy these clips. Special thanks to Mikey 'mikef98765' for hosting!

1. This is a riff from the A Perfect Circle CD, Mer De Noms.
2. This is the guitar solo from the song 'Brena' on Mer De Noms also.
3. This is the intro riff for 'Cthulu Dawn' by Cradle of Filth.
4. This is the bridge part for 'Curse you all Men' by Emperor.
5. This is a summary of a few guitar parts for 'Flesh and the Power it Holds' by the band Death
6. A bunch of riffs from 'The Philosopher' by Death.
7. Riffs from the song 'Pull the Plug' by Death.
8. One of my favorite songs. This is a bunch of riffs from the song 'Symbolic' by Death. The ending of the clip may sound a little sloppy, it is a tricky little devil to play.
9. Bunch of riffs from the song 'Zero Tolerance' by Death.

Well what do ya think? Like I said above the clips were whipped together quickly so I could have played some of the clips a little better.

Sounds good man. Yeah I know the recording isn't very clean. Like I said it was using the microphone input. I plugged my pedal straight to that input. So I had no EQ at all.

So what did you use to record that sample?

That Opeth thing sounds really good, I havent heard the other stuff yet nugz, soon I will, but yeah Metal Zone through the computer straight sounds really dirty, I use that Podxt Line 6 thing I got for all demos, I really want to start building a studio so I can make quality products at home. Get the reamp box, record everyting at home then transfer it to a big studio to run it through all the different combinations of amps in their nice rooms. Thats how the big boys do it, in Metallica, Testament, ect from what I was told..

Are you reffering to recording the dry guitar signal at home, then taking that to a pro studio where you can run all kinds of effects over it? I was always under the impression that people just demoed at home, then re-played and re-recorded the stuff professionally at the actual studio. Over on Andy Sneap's forums he used the PODxt for some demos and the sound was really really good. The key to good production seems to lie more in a person's ability than the equipment they use.

For that Opeth thing I ran my guitar through my ME-50 pedal, serving as a sort of primitive preamp to boost the signal to line level, then threw that into the 'line in' of the soundcard. Not very professional method, I know, but I'm short on cash :(

I ran that dry, clean sound through Guitar Rig, sequenced as a VST plug-in in Cubase SX 2 and just messed around with different sounds.

You'll find using pedals straight into the line-in or mic-in won't give you a very fresh sound. The best bet is to use some sort of devoted recording preamp like the PODxt, Vamp or whatever. Failing that you can always get a software processor like Guitar Rig, Amplitube etc. etc.

Yeah, it does. I use Cubase SX 2, that's a great application. I think #3 has just been released too. It can pretty much do it all, from recording to synthesing to mixing and mastering. Really versatile and user-friendly.

Yeah John, I'd really give Cubase a try, it's really great as Moonlapse has mentioned.

That AFJ clip sounded real good Moonlapse, what did you do to get that little "windy" guitar noise in the background?!?
