Who's Who

Hep, I had a good time around for a while reading, asking and ...sometimes... answering question (occasionally). It's time for an introduction :

Name: pifos
Location: Belgium, Louvain-la-neuve during the week, Aubange during the week-end
Age: 22
Own Band: Forced Evolution (Guitar and some programming)
Occupation: Automation enginner in a company designing cyclotrons during the day. Playing-guitar-like-crazy during the evening-night. Ahhh someday I'm gonne be a pro-musician.....
Musical Tastes: Metal (progressive, trash, heavy, death ...), Progressive rock, some acoustic, and jazz.
Favorite Bands: Nevermore, Arch eEemy, Dream Theater, Freak Kitchen, Opeth, Children of Bodom, Threat Signal and many more.
Favorite Albums: Dream Theater / Metropolis Pt 2 : Scenes From a Memory, Metallica / Justice For All, Freak Kitchen / Dead Soul Men, Children Of Bodom / Hatebreeder, Opeth / Blackwater Park
Favorite Producer: Andy Sneap, Steve Wilson
Production Experience:
None really. I programmed the keys for my band first demo and added few samples and effects. At least nothing practical. But I read dozens of posts all over this great forum and asked a lot of question. Trying to learn something. I will handle the production of my band next demo/EP.

Goal: Becoming a rock-star :D. To Wake-up one day, and saying to myself that the only thing I have to care about today is playing guitar.......

Gear:

- Need a serious vavle amplifier, still havent chosen yet (playing on a vodoo valve actually)
- Randall XLT cabinet

Favorite Album: Scenes From A Memory - DT
Favorite Producer: Can't say I really have one. I have my set of producers that always seem to create some kick ass tones and I borrow from each of them to make my own style (or at least try to :loco: )
Production Experience: I've been self-producing my own stuff for... about 5-6 years
Production Gear :

I'm a drummer and I have a 6-piece (double bass) Tama Rockstar kit with Sabian AA and AAX cymbals. Remo pinstripes on everything except the snare (that has an Emperor). BIG advocate of Ahead drumsticks and the Triplet Drum Glove (those things have spared me countless blisters since I've switched from wood sticks). I've only recently been taking producing seriously for the past 6 months or so and this site has always pointed me in the direction of some cool ideas. I just started drum replacement and I'm gonna be trying reamping soon. Plus the plugs you guys mentioned have been really cool.

Age: 36
Own Band: The Shrink (Guitar, songwriter, Producer) http://www.myspace.com/theshrinkmetal
Occupation: Import Co. and Metal Producer
Musical Tastes: I grew up listening to thrash and 80’s metal, and not much has changed since then. I like everything from Black Sabbath to Slayer, and lately I’m into new Scandinavian bands like Dream Evil, Scar Symmetry and Mercenary.
Favorite Band: Old King Diamond (the new stuff sucks IMO).

Favorite Producers: Martin Birch :worship:, Bob Rock/Randy Staub, Terry Date and Andy of course.
Production Experience: I studied recording engineering in UCLA, worked in Encore studios in California for a while, there I learn most of what I know now, back in the days when albums were done in two inch tape and SSLs. Then I came back home and started producing local bands and some pop artists. But the scene here is not too hot, so I had to get a day job to feed my kids (sounds familiar?). These past years I have been experimenting on guitar sound mainly, and also experienced a big improvement that I will soon share with this community in detail. Right now I’m finishing mixing my band’s new album and at the same time producing another band.

Production Gear : I’m in the process of updating my rig. Anybody interested in a Mackie 24x8 with Adats? Man, soon I’ll be offering it to a museum lol.
