Why are guitars either too harsh or too muddy?

well i seem to be finding them either too harsh or too muddy

anyways this is one of my many issues where do I start

The first two samples sound "ok". What are you using for the guitars (pod?).

Btw: Try to record the same riff twice and pan them 100% left and 100% right. This will give you a much better sound.
