People try so hard to push atheism. They always remind of college kids who just realize that everyone dies at some point. They instantly become philisophical and develop a superiority complex and act like they just learned the true meaning of life. Get over yourself

Sometimes after watching the news i seriously think that just like there is a drivers license, there also should be a parent license without which all people with children would pay a high fine every year...
Let the countrys best pediatrists and psychologists create a program for educating parents how to raise good children who will eventually become good people.

It has a lot to do with the structure of society; family being the foundation for it. Parents pass all kinds of crap onto their descendants for generations, not just positive values, as Hollywood's half-hour family comedies would make us believe. For a person to get fully disassociated from that kind of baggage can be rather hard.

And +1 to everything roflsaurusrex said, any person can be non-religious, and still be a self-involved, close-minded twat full of personal defects, and viceversa.

Open minded people, with an appreciation for common sense, civility and reasoning are often the least unbearable fellow human beings. Whether they refuse to acknowledge the realities of death or not, that's rather unimportant in comparison.

I pretty much agree with the thought that it has nothing to do with what you believe or don't believe in - just as there are crappy parents that believe in some all mighty force, there are just as many crappy parents who believe in nothing. Anyone, no matter what they believe in, can have a child, unfortunately - despite whatever they choose to believe in or not believe in, fewer take the effort to be decent parents.

Believe what you want to believe - you can still be a douche bag of a parent. Personally rather than teach my children how to feel exactly as I do I've attempted as best I can to teach the same tolerance I've tried to foster in myself. I teach my kid to be nice to others and to be polite... thats it... I'm not religious, I do enjoy poking fun at religions... I think organised religions are insane (don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people having faith in something) I don't get the "you must believe what I believe" mentality...

As my boy grows, whether he chooses a religion will be up to him, in the meantime he says please and thank you for anything he asks for, he says thank you to bus drivers when we step off, and I haven't enforced this with the fear of anyone or anything...

How so? How is the disproof of a god any more bullshit than the proof of a god? Both are just as non concrete. Sure the bible is a load of bullshit and imo the idea of afterlife etc is just as much bullshit, but it's ignorant to just rule out any possibilities. Besides the people who are all caught up in it are just brainwashed, it's not like they truely have cruel intentions

You're comparing forced labor, belittlement and insane living conditions based on someones race to someone having personal beliefs and raising their children on what they believe? You're right, I'm the crazy one.

But in reality if you are gonna call shit on Christianity/Catholisism (at least that seems to be what we are talking about), then don't forget about Judaism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Mithraism and a thousand other ones between. Raising your children on extremism of any religion is understandably insane, but that is because a lot of the time those groups hurt others.

Yeah, it's a tough cookie to somehow not mess with anyones FAITH, becouse that's their right to believe in a tooth fairy... but at the same try to tame their cult/religion because it's like disease that's consuming huge parts of the world
