Why do YOU own band shirts?

I'm doing some research for my dissertation in third year of uni (ew) and I'm writing it about... *drumroll*... band t-shirts!

What I want to know is why.​

Why do you buy and wear band shirts?
Where did it start, what (or who) got you into it?
What lead you to purchase shirts?
And for good measure... how many do you own?!

I buy and wear them if I really, really love the band and I'm serious about them. It's just nice to wear the band logo on my shirt, and just carry them with me, y'know? It's also pretty neat when people recognize your shirt and say something, or if they even just glance at it- because maybe, it'll peak their interest and they'll check it out too!
As for when it started... I bought my first shirt (Slayer) when I was 16, at the Del Mar Fair. lol
As for how many I own... I'm not sure... 10? Not that many compared to others.

Why do you buy and wear band shirts?
Because I like the appearance and it reflects that listening to music is one of my favourite things. I'm not really bothered by what other people think. If I like how I look then I'm happy.

Where did it start, what (or who) got you into it?
My first band shirt was a gift from my uncle, but it was of a band I'd never heard of at the time! It was really the next ones that got me into it, a Megadeth shirt I won online, and then gifts from my parents.

What lead you to purchase shirts?
Not having enough variety and/or feeling the need to get shirts of particular bands that I hadn't already been gifted.

And for good measure... how many do you own?!
I count 33, although one is a size too small and one shrank in the dryer so needs fixing.

Why do you buy and wear band shirts?

To support the groups/musicians that I listen to. If I really enjoy a particular release or group, I'll show them support with my dollars.

Where did it start, what (or who) got you into it?

No one, I got into it myself just to support the music that I love. Putting money where my mouth is more or less. If you want to show support, cash means more than words.

What lead you to purchase shirts?

Pretty sure I've answered this one by now.

Not as many as I would like at the moment!

Having money and needing shirts.

Literally this except instead of punk shirts it was Iron Maiden and Motorhead shirts. Now I own shirts from bands such as Revocation.
