Why listen to Sunn O)))?

I'm sure a few of you in here listen to Sunn O)))... But, I'm just wondering what you get out of their music? (aside from Black 1.)

they are one of the groups i fit into the "wicked grin" category. what i mean is that when i listen to them it's like i can feel exactly what they are trying to do: make forboding sound. sort of in the same way slayer effects me, but obviously quite different music.

i thought they might've turned into a fad-listen for me, but that's not the case and i own all their proper albums.

Yeah I feared the trend-listen as well for a bit, but it's obviously something different. I honestly feel a message of apocalypse conveyed that is almost orgasmic, but I won't get into that.

it doesn't hurt that they have killer guitar tones, awesome riffs, and i love drone/ambient as well.

are you familiar with earth? i think i've read sunn O))) is like a tribute to that band.

Yeah I've been meaning to check out Earth, seeing as how Chromo has some I think I'll indulge tonight. I've also heard of Moonn D))) which I've also heard is shit haha. Any album you would recommend?

i haven't heard earth either. mooonn D))) hahaha yeah i've heard of them but haven't heard them.

i've checked out other drone acts but have yet to be impressed. also while i like khanate, i don't enjoy them nearly as much as sunn O))). they just have that certain special something i guess.

edit: duhhhh two posts ago i said i love drone and this one contradicts that. well i do love drone, but not like guitar drone acts like sunn, which is what i was referring to. yeah. [/nitpicking something nobody but me cares about]

Agreed. Khanaté bores the fuck out of me. The only other drone that (really isn't drone) I can tolerate is Boris. Boris fucking rules. Not to mention I'd fuck and marry the guitarist in a heartbeat. I LOVE YOU, YOU AZN FEMALE GUITARIST YOU.

so which boris to start with? i found their website but didn't see any samples, but that amplifier worship album was released on man's ruin and then later re-released on southern lord, so i'm pretty content with blindly purchasing that one.
