Why listen to Sunn O)))?

hey Nad I'm surprised you aren't more familiar with Earth - Dylan Carlson was Kurt Cobain's best friend and the one that bought him that shotgun.......

Earth's goal was taking that Seattle sound to the extreme, one-upping the Melvins I guess, lol ( woo, melvins!)

and if anyone wants real Boris drone (since acie alluded to boris not being completely drone) you should check out ABSOLUTEGO, an ultra heavy drone masterpiece, 1 hr+ of the heaviest stuff ever.. they do have a few more drone only releases, but that is their best (and i think the rest are vinyl only anyway..)

oh wow, didn't know that. need some earth it seems. need more melvins, but that's a big duh to anyone that doesn't own 2 copies of all their shit. :loco:

In the summer of 93, Kurt experienced what he called “a miracle”. After years of consulting specialists about his debilitating stomach pain, he found a doctor who finally diagnosed the problem- a pinched nerve relating to his scoliosis. Once the problem was diagnosed, it became treatable and Kurt finally rid himself of his daily agony. From this point on, many people detected a change in Kurt’s personality;
“Kurt became a new person after that. He stopped retreating into the dark side that everybody came to associate with him and actually seemed cheerful. Part of it was Frances, I think, but the stomach thing was the most important.”(Dylan Carson)(3.)
okay fucking WOW i didn't realize his stomach thing was ever cured, which was the only thing keeping me on the fence of whether he blew his own brains out or if courtney did it. i'm 100% convinced now. that fucking twat.

FLIGHT OF THE BEHEMOTHHHHHH

that might be my favorite sunn album, IF NOT for those merzbow remixes tossed right in the middle :p

really ruins the flow for me, and its shame because imo the other tracks on their are totally the best they've done

yeah man, if you read Dylan's side of the story and compare it to Courtney's, the two totally don't line up.

as for Earth, I recommend Earth 2 (but i think its out of print.........) or Phase 3 (maybe not out of print)

Today I'm finally checking out the brand new album, HEX, from the recently reuinited Earth.. its interesting, like Western soundscapes.
if I was a cowboy, THIS would be the music I want playing as I roam the range
I have a feeling I'm gonna keep it ranked up there as far as mood music goes, with the likes of Ry Cooder's Paris, Texas.

I tried to edit my post but UM crashes whenever i try to post :/

anyway i wanted to add that I heard Earth - Pentastar: In the Style of Demons is totally awesome, its like "Earth goes grunge" and they cover some hendrix song... alas, I haven't heard it, but that should be on the list of things to watch out for.

.

I've heard a few tracks of it, and was pleasantly surprised to hear some evocative instrumentals as opposed to Sunn-style (who as you undoubtedly know owe their existence to them) drone orgies...maybe I'll order it alongside Black1.

Saw them a couple weeks ago. I didn't really expect anything special and it was good because I got nothing special either. Earth on CD >>>>>>> Earth live and Sunn O))) were entertaining at best, and certainly worth seeing if you need a full body massage.

Haha, English native speakers keep telling me that I sound more like an Aussie or Kiwi than like a German. Seems most of the ugly German accent is gone. :p

Two of my buddies have seen Sunn O))) a couple of times now. According to them, they're pretty impressive live. I trust my boys. It'll certainly be a little different from the concerts I usually go to... So I'm curious. Also the location is quite interesting: Volksbühne Berlin.

I'd pay 10 bucks to put gugs on a stage and make him entertian me... provided we went with roman gladiator rules, where if he sucks we can give him a thumbs down and lions or gladiators will savage his ass.
